Hi Owens
I've been trying to find a close up picture of one of my monkeys to show you the stitching. This is the best close up I could find. I must admit I try my best to make the stitching really small and make it as "invisible" as possible and I also try to co ordinate the colour of the cotton. But saying that I know alot of people who love monkeys with stitching showing as thats how they were made originally and adds to the charm;)Feb GC £80 per week (Well I'm gunna try:whistle:)

Thanks angelkay, I love all your monkeys especially the pirate:D he's fantastic:T Do you ever get sick of making them? I find that I dread when someone asks me for one now as I just seemed to have lost interest a bitI'm wanting to have a go at other things such as nappy cakes, journals etc and just find that monkeys are so time consuming. I do love the "dressing up" bit when I have finished sewing a monkey but can't seem to find the enthusiasm to start one anymore:rotfl:I think I have made that many that I have sickened myslf with them:( I still do them if people ask for one but thats about it;) I'm hoping that no one wants one for xmas as I've got so many other projects to do and so little time to do them:D

Hi Owens
I use normal cotton to sew the monkey together and to backstitch the ears but if I am sewing a mouth and nostrils I use embroidery cotton:DFeb GC £80 per week (Well I'm gunna try:whistle:)

owens I think you may find we all make them slightly differently. I don't have a sewing machine so it is a pretty epic process to sew the legs, tail and ears initially but I just sew them on with a kind of overstitch by folding the edges in and pinching them to the body and sewing through both. I use the heel for the muzzle but I stuff it quite a lot as I think that looks best. My biggest problem is tying off the thread in a way that means you can't see it. I am quite pleased with my monkeys but they do still look handmade which is nice.
I have just finished a green one which I am going to put in my car but I want to sew some velcro on it's bum or get a suction thingy so it will sit on the dashboard, it is just sat like a small child in my passenger seat at the momentGod is good, all the time
Do something that scares you every day

i do get a bit bored with them as they take sooooo long to put together. i did them in batches and still have about 24 outsewn at various stages either just outsewn, or stuffed waiting to be pinned and i have 4 pinned together that i need to sew. i seem to flit between monkeys and nappy cake/baby bouquets but as I have nowhere to store them so that they are kept out i have to box everything up and then haul it all out again when i want to make more which is really a pain. i hate the stuffing part the most and am glad when thats done i can never seem to get them stuffed just as i would like, i will be glad when i see the end of the monkeys i have still to make. I have kind of given up looking at ths sock sections in the supermarkets for now too. Hopefully i will find the motivation from somewhere to get them all finished :rotfl:0 -
