i do get a bit bored with them as they take sooooo long to put together. i did them in batches and still have about 24 outsewn at various stages either just outsewn, or stuffed waiting to be pinned and i have 4 pinned together that i need to sew. i seem to flit between monkeys and nappy cake/baby bouquets but as I have nowhere to store them so that they are kept out i have to box everything up and then haul it all out again when i want to make more which is really a pain. i hate the stuffing part the most and am glad when thats done i can never seem to get them stuffed just as i would like, i will be glad when i see the end of the monkeys i have still to make. I have kind of given up looking at ths sock sections in the supermarkets for now too. Hopefully i will find the motivation from somewhere to get them all finished :rotfl:

I know what you mean about not looking at socks anymore:rotfl: The thing is we've just found out we are going to be grandparents:j so now I'm looking for baby type projects to do, I love it:j

I brought a couple of pair of uber long socks from the pound shop yesterday and hubby keeps laughing at me! They're over the knee ones so it's going to have stuidly long legs and arms!

    aww congratulations :j:T

i love making baby stuff like cakes n bouquets and they are so much faster to make than monkeys, I have done a cake with a monkey as a cake topper and the mum was over the moon with it. You will have so much fun shopping for baby bits and deciding what you are going to make

    Hi Owens

I've been trying to find a close up picture of one of my monkeys to show you the stitching. This is the best close up I could find. I must admit I try my best to make the stitching really small and make it as "invisible" as possible and I also try to co ordinate the colour of the cotton. But saying that I know alot of people who love monkeys with stitching showing as thats how they were made originally and adds to the charm;)

Wow, they are sooooo beautiful. I'm almost afraid to give them a go as I know they would never be up to the standard on this thread.
A creative mess is better than tidy idleness :D
  • I went to see Aliens In The Attic with my children at the cinema today. The young girl in the film had.....a sock monkey!! She ended up giving it to the friendly alien to take home to his planet. All I could think of was this thread! :rotfl:

Those sock monkeys get everywhere, even into outta space by the looks of it! :D

  • Just thought I'd show you all my latest sock monkey! Have discovered that the smaller socks (2 1/2 year old) are so much easier and quicker to make and they make great car monkey toys by adding suction cups to the hands.

I made this one as a gift for a friend to congradulate her on passing her driving test. He was an instant hit :T and has now been named Jeremiah.

Hes lovely-can you tell me where you found the suction caps-they are a great idea!

  • Thanks sharon59, the suction cups came from Wilko - on the packet they're called 20mm suction hooks and come in a pack of 4 costing about 47p. I pulled the metal hooks off and found that you can pull the needle and thread through the plastic bobble at the end of each cup to attach it to the monkey.
