  • stardrops, that is just the cutest thing!
some people grin and bear it, others smile and do it :)
  • Stardrops, your monkey is so adorable!!

My flatmates laugh at me that I've made sock monkeys. XD I've got two at the moment, one is going to be sent to America for my best friend, so I'm carting it around Glasgow taking pictures of it having fun here to send along with it :)
  • Hi Everyone
Read through this whole thread last night into the wee small hours and for some crazy reason i was totally inspired. I do not have a creative bone in my body - i have never even sewn on a button in my life and i am currently sitting here with the inside of a poundland pillow all over my table currently stuffing my first monkey!!
Not sure if i will post pics as my sewing is very iffy - doing it by hand - 1st time sewing. Wish me luck!
Oh how wonderful i can feel your inspiration bursting way over here lol! Best of luck and most of all enjoy! hope you do post a pic would love love to see :O) x

guess this one belongs here as i used the monkey pattern as a base for this one (shorter tail that isnt stuffed just sew at both ends, shaped horns which i cut into shape -done in much the same way as the ears though and instead of using the heel of sock for mouth part i used the larger toe part)
introducing daisy the fluffy pink sock cow (i hand sew so much prefere the fluffy socks as they hide a mulitude of sewing sins)

awww love it! just too cute! well done :O) x

to the poster above who has the website.... i'm a bit miffed that you think that my monkeys (and the others on here) are inferior to yours which is what you have inferred in your post - perhaps i'm not the worlds best sewer but i think that ALL the monkeys on here are fantastic even more so when they are made with love specifically for the person they are given or sold to so even though i don't have a fancy website nor make them particularly fancy clothes and i also use possibly the cheapest socks that i can find no high quality materials here just good old fashioned cheap supermarket socks, i would like to bet that the people who have received mine wouldn't part with them even if you offered them £100. even with only having 3 months experience making these in my leisure time
i'm assuming that seeing as you joined in jan and have only posted on this forum that you googled your business name and up came this forum, i think you will also find that the poster did not ask for a breakdown of your costs or justification of why you charge what you do, they merely posted that she thought that folks monkeys should be selling for more than they were seeing as the going rate so to speak was around the £35 mark

from one miffed sock monkey maker (albeit of inferior quality when compared to certain others)
Hello There nice to meet you ! I respect all monkey makers irrespectful of experience you should see my first few 12 or so sock monkeys lol! I think as i was being made an example of that i should have the freedom to reply as it was about my work and website was it not? I do NOT refer to anyone as being inferior to me and would never do such a thing lordy knows! that would be plain cruel and that is not me by far to be that way! nope nope!....when i first started making sock monkeys for sale i did use cheap as you say * market socks* and i did sell them at cheap prices too, i could afford to sell cheap, the reason why i warn people about pricing and experience and comparing to others is because i want to help them, when i first made a few monkeys i sold them and i got complaints, mostly because after time and pulling from children they came apart, cheap fluffy/nylon/polyester socks produced holes all over and stuffing started to empty out and it was very embarrassing and upsetting at the time as you can imagine! As i learnt from mistakes i bought better quality materials as well as better quality socks,i self taught myself to produce good quality that would not fall apart after time and again being pulled at,i changed my way of working with them and spent years mastering the look, feel, quality, style, who i bought stock from and where, everything from threads, filling, buttons, clothing, embellishments and so on.You get to know the look and feel what will work well and what wont,so i will only buy good quality sometimes having items shipped to me and sometimes travelling many miles to good sock makers/providers.I love allllll sock monkeys, there is no perfect way or result, all monkeys are made from deep withing the heart,i would never insult any sock monkey maker including yourself,i buy from all types of sock monkey makers as i am an addict for them lol and i love collecting from many makers all over the world irrespective of experience.I did not insult you or anyone and had no intentions of doing so.If you felt miffed its because you may have read me wrong or implemented your own judgement against me to fire arrows be it for your own reasons , but either way i apologise to anyone who may have thought i have insulted anyone it was certainly not my intention, just to help and advise as i always have when people have asked me for help before,i love all the sock monkeys this world has ever created and everyone i see n my lifetime yet to live.I love what i do and i am passionate about what i do,its not the money, its the joy,and hoping that other makers will learn that to sell a sock monkey please make sure it is safe for children to use, remember choking hazards and the new law for toy makers that toys sold to young children are now having to be tested before sale for safety, although that law is still undergoing scrutiny for small buisnesses like you and me.I am only here to make friends and be nice and help and encourage nothing more.Oh and sorry for the posting mistake i did not know being new here sorry! I wish you all happy monkey making and meant no malice Love n Blessings Bluesaphire xx
