    hello

i posted about this on the previous complaints thread but at that point had not made the actual complaint!

i sent a letter of complaint about a month ago to the company which makes clearblue pregnancy tests, after a test i took was incorrect. my point basically was that giving an incorrect result in a case like this is dangerous and irresponsible.

they asked me to send in the test, which i did - i then received a response saying they had tested it and the results were inconclusive - i.e. they couldnt tell why i had received an incorrect result, and therefore my hormone levels must be at fault!

i responded saying that if a test is faulty then it should not give either a Pregnant or Not Pregnant result, but rather something neutral. They responded saying they still maintain that the test was not faulty.

because of this test result being incorrect, i took 4 more to be sure!! - over the course of a week. i was hoping for a refund at least for one set of tests, if not more.

is it worth complaining again? is there a consumer body you can refer your complaint to if the company are not accepting liability?

    thanks, karie
  • Nearly three years ago now we bought my daughter GHD straighteners for her 16th birthday. A couple of months ago they stopped working so I sent them to GHD to try to get them repairs. They called me to say they could not be repaired due to their age and would I like a discount off another pair. I kicked up a fuss saying I thought they should last longer for that money etc, and then stated I wanted them back cos if they could not repair them my husband (an electronics designer) could, so I sent off the £10 postal order. This morning a knock at the door brought a BRAND NEW PAIR OF GHD STRIGHTENERS! The letter said they could not find the other pair to return them to me! To think I nearly did not bother asking for them back!!
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare

    HI,

You could still try complaining but to be honest I wouldn't. Something similar happened to me but they have themselves covered because the tests say something like 99.9% accurate therefore if there is a wrong reading they can say that the peoduct is not always 100% right.

Couple of comments about being overcharged:-

Woolworths - my local Woolies seems to have a policy of not giving people their receipts. Whenever I have asked for my receipt I get tutted at, or a heavy sigh and a dirty look. It is very convenient for Woolworths to not give people their receipts if, as a previous poster has mentioned, they are overcharging people.

Budgens - I have a Budgens just a few minutes away from me. I learnt very quickly five years ago when I moved to the area, that I should only ever use this store in an emergency as I have been overcharged almost every single time I have bought anything from this store. Apparently it was a problem nationwide with head office incapable of sending the correct shelf tags to the right stores and matching them up with barcodes. I also learned never to challenge the cashier if he/she rang something up incorrectly. If you have a few minutes extra to spare, let it go through on the till, but take it up with customer services after you have paid. Often the store will have a policy in place such as "double the difference". My local Budgens, now that it is part of a franchise, has been refunding the ENTIRE cost of the item, not just the overcharge.
Blessed are the cracked, for it is they who let in the light...:A
