I think perhaps a little bit of give and take? It sounds as if he pays fairly hefty maintenance, enough for you to live on as well with your child related benefits, so perhaps a request for smartly turned out children just occasionally is not too much to ask for.At least he wants to take them to the barbecue. Perhaps if it is that much of an imposition then the children should stay with you.
I understand what you say JTO, but his payment is the basic 20% of his take home pay. I suppose I feel that as DS never wears a shirt just t-shirts and sweaters that it is an outlay I can do without particularly as they both eat me out of house and home now!

He does. Almost £700 a month maintenace pays for a fair few shirts. Sorry but there really has to be some give and take. Could get a one off shirt from Tesco for about £4, or as a previous poster said he could wear a school shirt.

EDIT: MOT if you are asking him to continue making payments that he perhaps doesn't legally have to then I think the issue of a 4quid shirt really isn't worth pursuing

I didn't know before reading this thread, that it was possible for income to be maintaince plus tax credits. I always thought that it was the choice of working 16 hours+ and claiming tax credits and keeping maintainance, or being on Income Support and only keeping a small amount of maintaince.

Good luck with the job hunting M-O-T.

P.S loads of sales on in the shops if you need to get twins new clothes.

No I knew that I've worded it wrong, but I thought the choice was if your marriage/relationship broke up and you were left with kids

work 16+ hours claim wtc (if eligible) and ctc keep all maintaince (if paid)

    OR

Claim IS and any other benefits (eg child tax credit) and only receive small amount of maintaince.

I didn't know it was possible to be on just maintaince and child tax credits until I read this thread.

Not going to make an issue of it JTO its just that its the second time its happened and ... well there are other mitigating factors.

The maintenance money covers rent and bills, then CTC and CB covers food and everything else.

    Hi Spendless,

Our maintenance agreement was agreed in Court and the only time CSA were involved was for an increase a couple of years ago. He pays me directly each month, then I get Child Tax Credit each week and Child Benefit. When I return to work providing I do 16+ hours each week I will get WTC too.

  • apologies if this has been mentioned, but if your ex has a 3 month notice period wont he be salaried during those 3 months, thus continuing to give you your CSA?
