It doesn't feel right to me - I'm with Idiophreak on this one. After all, Kate was quite happy to pay £50 for the dress in the first place. I know it is infuriating to see something on sale after you have bought it at the full price, but nobody forced Kate to buy it in the first place.

OH's repy - "you spent HOW MUCH on a dress?"
  • What some people are missing here is that Kate is not returning the worn dress, but the new one she bought at £25, but using the reciept from the £50 purchase to return it. She should do it. The markup is so high on clothing, my rule is if its a chain then do it, they can afford it, if its a small inderpendent then I'd think about it a bit more as there overheads are going to be higher.

I have done something worse than that. When Wii Fit came out I had pre-ordered it online at a cheaper than store price, but it didnt arrive on launch. Now, I couldnt wait so I bought one at full price from a retail park toy chain and used that. I then returned the unused one that came a week later in the post to the store and got my money back. I therefore "loaned" the one from the store for nothing, and they got back a brand new item so no loss to them. It was worth the hassle for a weeks extra work outs!

I'd take it back without a doubt. With the profit margins made on clothes, is this really going to cause any hardship to the store or personally affect any individual? I don't think so rolleyes.gif
    Wins since 2009 = £17,600

    MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS
  • Definitely take it back. I'd phone the shop and tell them that I had just bought it and see if they'd refund the difference first though - some will!
  • Kate might want to check out section 2 of the Fraud Act 2006 before falsely representing that she bought the sale item for full price and producing a receipt issued for another item and falsely representing that it is the receipt for the sale dress. She might like to ask herself whether this is honest behaviour
  • Too damn right! Why not play the stores at their own game! :money:

Some shops will offer the diffreence if you ask anyway. It's easier for them than taking the original dress back refunding it in full, then selling you the new one at half price. The moral dilemma though is should she do it. Of course not. If she was happy to pay the original £50 asking price then she should be happy to keep it for that price. If she was not happy paying the £50, she should not have bought it.

If I were Kate I would be a bit miffed that no-one had mentioned that the item was about to be reduced (they must know which stock is about to be knocked-down)

When I worked retail, we'd be given a list of stuff one day, we'd go round and reduce it. *No* idea before that what would be reduced (except for Donnie Darko DVD - that's always knocked down in sales :))
