MONEY MORAL DILEMMA. Should Kate return a sale frock with a full price receipt?

  • I've done this many times. If I'm still within the shops returns period (which can often be a lot longer than 14 days) I can't see the problem. I used to work on the returns desk of a high street store we knew people did this and as long as the item is unworn there's little the shop can do. It would be a different matter if you tried to return the worn one (especially with something spilt on it) but most shops will check for wear or marks anyway.
  • i would do it and i have.
nothing more irritating then buying something to see it a few days later at a fraction of the price!!
  • If I were Kate and could afford a dress at £50 I wouldn't do as the OP suggests though. I would instead buy TWO sale dresses at £25 each and return one of them for a £50 refund, keeping the other. That way I still paid £50 but I have a wearable dress and can chuck the ruined one :rotfl:
Ruined? You mean you would spend £50 on a dress that wouldn't even survive a champagne spillage and then, having discovered this, you'd buy another one?

When I did a holiday job as a sales assistant in Selfridges (more years ago than I care to admit) on our induction session we were advised of this happening. They told us that the number of hats returned "unworn" after Ascot was nothing short of amazing, but that if there was nothing wrong with the item we should accept the return. I can't believe that people would want to claim a refund on something they have damaged, though - if they broke a coffee pot (say) would they take it back and say, "Sorry, I didn't notice it didn't have a spout when I bought it, so can I have my money back now please?"

I assumed that the dress was ruined, but I have no idea, I don't buy delicate clothes :rotfl:

but if I bought a dress and the champagne ruined it (or more likely a cigarette burn, as happened to my ballgown, sob!) then I would rather have still paid the £50 but have a wearable dress, than get a £25 refund meaning I'd have still paid £25 but have no dress.

If you make a purchase, and then find that within a short time period it goes on sale, you just produce your reciept, and the difference is refunded! I've been with people doing it! I'm afraid it is a bit like the doggy bag dilema - America demands more for its money and is not afraid to ask!! We Brits are too polite so get ripped off!!
judging by the posts in this thread - we Brits are NOT polite - just a bunch of scallys! What a sad life you lot have! I bet most of you enjoy watching Jeremy Kile and Big Brother - lol!
  • i bought a winter coat from Whistle which was reduced from £235 down to £160. The coat on display was abit worn out, so i asked the sales gal if they have a new one in stock which they do. As i was paying, i saw the price tag on the coat which the sales gal took from store room was £110. I asked if that's the sales price, the sales gal told me 'oh no, it was a mistake, they put the wrong price on the coat, it is £160' so i tot, ok, honest mistake. i paid and left. 2 days later, i checked on their website, exact same coat on sales for £110 !!!!!! i was furious !! felt like i have been lied to !!! Does anybody has similiar experience? i could have easily refund the coat and buy at cheaper price later, but the problem is Whistle has a sales policy, any sales items was not entitled full refund only exchange, i am sure as hell they will not let me exchange the exact same coat for cheaper price.. any good advise? i will try to call customer service tomorrow to demand refund for the differences. Any good idea on how to approach to achieve maximun satisfaction ARE WELCOME !! Cheers !! or anybody know if Whistle has policy same as GAP which they will refund the differences if bought item went on sales within 14 days???? HELP !!
