MONEY MORAL DILEMMA. Should Kate return a sale frock with a full price receipt?

Have to admit, I've done that!
Found a gorgeous dress for a wedding at Monsoon, then found one on eBay for £30 or so, instead of £90, brand new with tags on ... but it wouldn't arrive in time.
I bought it in the shop and then returned the eBay version, which was brand new and in perfect condition, for a full £90 refund.
Bit cheeky, but I didn't really feel guilty about it.0 -
I would buy the sale dress, see if they mark it in any way, if not go to another checkout with old receipt and return it. if they did mark it, just go home and get the other one and take that back.0

If Kate were to return the dress she paid £25 for with the £50 receipt she would commit a criminal offence of obtaining property by deception, however if she returns the original dress with its own receipt and buys the dress again at the sale price no offence is committed. As other posters have mentioned my view is 'what goes around comes around' and while I would probably approach the shop and ask if they were willing to give me a credit note in the circumstances I would not return the dress - a clear conscience is worth more than £25 to me.0

I wouldn't have spent £50 on a dress to start with! LOL
I bought 2 identical dresses (different colours) about 5 years ago in QD - I paid under £3 each for them, and I often get comments about what lovely dresses they are! Shop around and there's no dilemma!0 -
I'm a bit surprised at this thread.
Unless the store specifically has a policy that allows you to do this, you are committing 'receipt fraud'. And buying a cheaper item at another store then getting it refunded from the expensive one is definately fraud.
I hear that 'receipt fraud' is a very serious issue these days, and the police will take a very hard line on this issue - a long stretch in the nick for you to look forward to. On the other hand if you go and actually rob the shop and stab a member of staff the penalties are much less. Just a pat on the head and sent on your way with a police caution.0 -
I had this in Monsoon last year but I couldn't return it as they didn't have that size again.
I would do it, after all who has cash to throw away.
If they can afford to sell it to others at that price then why should I miss out.0 -
I think the important thing is when she needed the dress. As she needed it before the price was dropped she should be prepared to accept it but be straight forward and ask them if they'll do her the refund as a goodwill thing.
On a similar theme, when I was furnishing my flat I was waiting for delivery of stuff for my spare bedroom when I saw that they'd put a BOGOF deal on the bedside cabinets. As I'd not received the goods, even though I'd paid for them I went in and asked for the extra money back, which they agreed to no problem. In that case if they'd said no I would have cancelled the items and then reordered them under the offer. If they'd already been delivered and I'd been using them I'd have tried for it but I wouldn't have bothered repurchasing and returning.0 -
I was recently in a similar situation having bought a jacket for £50 which was then reduced to £25. I thought about doing a sneaky and returning it, only to buy it again but instead I asked to speak to the manager (I thought I'd be honest) who said that, by law, they can't refuse the refund and re-purchase. She was nice about it, too. So no need to be sneaky - just be honest!0

I'd do it without hesitation! For example...if you bought a tuxedo for a party. Would you have it dry cleaned and take it back after the event? I would! When the hell am I ever gonna need to wear a penguin suit again?
What would you do if you saw a woman drop a lottery ticket in a lift?English by birth. GEORDIE by the grace of God.0 -
I do this all the time (with unworn clothes) AND tell the ladies at the till what I am doing - they just shrug, smile and agree with me there is no point me paying the full price if I am still within the 28 day period.
I recently (with the full co-operation and understanding of the supervisor on duty:beer: ) took back over £100 pounds worth of summer outfits I had bought with a 20% voucher in Newlook and then bought most of them back paying the sale price two weeks later - saving approx £40:money:
I must confess though - I was recently very naughty - the week before I purchased a pair of sandles - price £25 and wore them once (very uncomfortable but pretty) I was most annoyed to see them in the sale the following week for £12 so I bought a sale pair and returned them for the full price with the receipt the next day:rotfl:
Sorry if you dont agree but I buy so many clothes - these retailers more than make their money back from me - probably only going to purchase more items in their shop with the money I save anyway :rolleyes:0
