Someone earlier said that all you would be entitled to claim for is rent of a room in a shared house. But if your disability means that's not an option, maybe you would be able to claim for the rent of a studio apartment?
Oh, for goodness sake don't encourage her! Since when has not wanting to live with other people been classed as a disability?:mad:0 -

There is a massive difference between someone not wanting to live with somebody else, and being physically/ mentally unable to live with someone else.Gone ... or have I?0 -
It sounds to me like the reason the website is saying you are entitled to benefits is that you are using the wrong LHA?AFAIK the LHA for parts of Kensington is around £115, so I would be surprised if parts of the Midlands are the same.
dmg24 asked you what local authority you were in. Maybe if you answer that then he can tell you how much your LHA should be.
I think there's two parts to this thread...
1. If you are entitled to benefits you should be allowed to claim them (regardless of how hard up other people on the board are / were).
2. With or without benefits you need to live within your means and maybe there are areas you could cut back on to allow yourself more money to enjoy yourself / survive.0 -

It sounds to me as if the OP is finding the rate for a 2 bed house rather than the single room with shared facilities which is what is appropriate.0 -
She said she "can't" live with people. Maybe it is a real psychological issue for her, that her doctor would corroborate (sp?)...Oldernotwiser wrote: »Oh, for goodness sake don't encourage her! Since when has not wanting to live with other people been classed as a disability?
Or maybe she doesn't want to live with other people, just wants those other people to pay the rent anyway...0 -

Even if this were true (and how many more strangely convenient psychological issues are we as a society going to consider as disabilities?) she'd still only be eligible for 1 bed accommodation!0 -
I've got such a disability... I won't name it or explain it or she'll say she's got itOldernotwiser wrote: »Oh, for goodness sake don't encourage her! Since when has not wanting to live with other people been classed as a disability?
I've always had to live alone, it's expensive, you stay in all the time and have no friends, but it's worth it to me. I don't claim a bean, for my disability or any other benefits. If I have been broke, I've always found some way to eke together a couple of quid... often spent weeks sat with the lights out just to get to the end of the month.0 -
Does this mean you've spotted your mistake on the entitled to website?summerboo21 wrote: »OK thank you everyone(being geninue), i will right down what i am spending things on and try and sort it out that way.0
