  • We need a little more information!

    What is your income?

Does anyone else live in the house with you?

What benefits are you trying to claim?

There may be more but these will do to start!

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

Only one of you in a 2bed house - won't get HB or CTB for that.

£13000 for a single person with no dependents is unlikely to be classed as a low income. Also, as someone has said, you won't be entitled to HB (now LHA for private rented) or CTB for a two bed house, as you are over-accommodated.

If you can't afford where you are living you need to look for something smaller, a one bedroom flat or studio apartment maybe?

I suspect you're *just* at or above the amount of income where you're no longer entitled to get anything.
Someone with more knowledge will be along to tell you for sure. Have you tried the entitledto.co.uk website?
  • There isnt anthing in my area at a lower rent.

So it was pointless going for a 1 bed as i could get the same price for a 2bed.

Have you thought about getting a lodger/mate to rent your second room?

You need to be looking at increasing your disposable income by reducing costs rather than claiming if you've no need to claim.

It's quite unusual for a single person of your age to have self contained accommodation to themselves, much less a 2 bed house. Why don't you get someone in to share? That way you'll not only have their rent money coming in but you'll be splitting the bills 2 ways.

You need to rent what you can afford rather then renting something bigger than you need and expecting the taxpayer to subsidise this.

How much is the LHA for a room with shared facilities for your area? There is a link here to find out. How much is your CT?
    Gone ... or have I?
