So it was pointless going for a 1 bed as i could get the same price for a 2bed.
Unfortunately, it doesn't work like that. HB/LHA will normally make a reduction for the extra bedroom, as they will view it as you paying extra for a room you don't need. Logic doesn't come into it. The same thing happened mhen my sister's son went to uni, she had a three bed house but when he went she was only entitled to a two bed house (the fact that he still comes home in the holidays and has loads of stuff that don't go with him to uni, also doesn't count). She had got the house at a good rent and two bed houses were the same or dearer, but they still applied the reduction. She was on £13000 with two kids.
Have you considered taking a lodger for the spare room?
Also you might want to see a CAB or welfare benefits adviser as they may know more about your local area.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -

It doesn't work like that anymore. For LHA, a person is awarded a set amount irrespective of how many rooms are in the property. So a single person under 25, will be eligible for the relevant amount for a room in a shared house, a single person 25 or over, a one bed property etc xGone ... or have I?0 -
