Excellent advice, thanks very much wuno :A
I hadn't considered the indoor diets but having just looked at the analysis profile I can see that would be a much better choice and would suit both cats, so thankyou!
Am I right in thinking the Vet Senior diet is POM-V? I don't mind paying the extra if they would benefit more from it so I'll speak to the vet about it when I go in. The elderly cat still has a good appetite but the weight loss is starting to concern me. She currently weighs 3.6kg so I'm guessing she's lost 0.5-1kg of weight over the last month or so.
I'm going to make an appt for her to have a full MOT next week and check everything's still in working order. She's certainly starting to show signs of old age and has been a bit wobbly on her back legs recently too so need to find out whether there's any underlying medical problems.
Thanks again for you advice, I'm most grateful to you :A“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

We buy our 10k bags from a company called North West Discount petfood. They are based in Blackpool but deliver to most of the country. They do breeders packs(2x 10k bags) and save us a fortune. The bags are resaelable. We also get our litter from them as well.We have been using them for about 5 years and they have never let us down. They deliver every two weeks. (free delivery) I do have the prce lists and hte phone numbers which I more than happy to post if anyone wants them. I am not employed in an ycapicity by them just glad of the savings! As I said I will happily post the details(they don't just do cat food) but give me a bit of time as things here are a bit difficult. We lost one of our beloved, very dearly loved cats yesterday.Blind as you run...aware you were staring at the sun.
And when no hope was left inside on that starry starry night.

No. As far as I'm aware, there are no diets (even specialist vet diets) that are POM-Vs.
However, it is always advisable to seek veterinary advice before choosing a specialist diet because there are some known contra-indications. "Lifestage" diets are at the mild end of specialist, though.
Hope everything is OK with Puss.0 -
Here's a link to the dry matter analysis of 153 dry foods available in the UK. It only lists the Protein, Fat, Sodium and Phosphorous levels so not sure if that's in depth enough for you...

Thanks, I've got her booked in next week for a full check-up and geriatric blood profile so will wait and see the outcome of that in case she needs a special veterinary diet. Otherwise, if she gets the all clear I'll start making the switch over to one of the Royal Canin diets.
I actually found a bag of Hill's Mature in the back of the cupboard yesterday so have started feeding her that for now in a separate bowl. Strangely enough she seems to prefer that one by choice and the other cat just took one sniff at it and went back to the main bowl with the Mature/Light in it. It's almost as if they know which one they're supposed to be eating! And here was me thinking they'd be awkward and not co-operate “You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

That's extremely helpful, thanks very much! :A
The only vital thing missing is the fibre content, as that's the other thing I was looking at for the younger cat's needs, but depending on the outcome of tests at the vets next week I shall probably go along with wuno's suggestion of the Royal Canin diet.
I've bookmarked the page though and will definitely have a good look at it once I'm in a better position to make a decision.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
That site also has phone numbers and/or email addresses for over 30 UK food manufacturers so you could try ringing or emailing to find out the fibre content if you're interested in a particular brand.

Well I would recommend Orijen, though I don't know anything about your cat's health problem. I do know that before we switched to Orijen, my cat was obviously constipated, now she goes once a day and it doesn't look like little pebbles any more. Sorry if TMI
She was on Hill's Senior before.
