I'm sure none of them will starve though.
I know what you mean but I wouldn't worry about them, as you say, they won't starve
We have 2 cats and sometimes one is out and one is in when it comes to food time (not very often though because they both have good appetites and I swear they can tell the time :rotfl: ) I just fill up both bowls and leave it there.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. I rescue cats and am saddened by the number who are left to find their own food. I have just taken in 2 small kittens, aged around 8 weeks, who were living outside, full of cat flu, and the owner said they could fend for themselves! I know what I'd like to do to her!
Our oldest cat and kitten have been adopted from other people who 'couldn't' look after them anymore.
I was at our local animal shelter the other week and it broke my heart to see all the poor cats.
Apparently they are looking for people to volunteer as "cat cuddlers", which sounds like a lovely way to spend a Sun afternoon!DEBT FREE! Sep '08/£9,800 in Oct '06 :beer:0 -
Both of my girls are rescues too!
Coco picked me as an 18th birthday present when I first moved in with hubby. Have had her 14 years. She was somewhere between 18 months and 3 yrs old when she came to us so she's an old lady now.
Then Lily we got last year shortly after moving to this house. Her owner had to let her go as she didn't get on with the dog they had.
She's 4 now and as mad as a box of frogs!:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
Yes - all pet food is a con. Cats and Dogs are supposed to eat raw meat!
I feed my dog raw chicken wings - it's only cooked bones that splinter - and he is as fit as a fiddle, his teeth are in better condition than many dogs his age and he is a retired Greyhound who are notorious for having bad teeth due to lousy diets when in training. Yes his poo turns white if I leave it in the garden for a few days but there is less of it as there is no bulking carbs in his diet. Also he doesn't stink the house out, has great skin and a calmer personality compared to when I got him.
Having said that my cats have felix and crunchies unless monster-cat thieves a chicken wing from the dog.. I feel quite strongly about the raw food diet I feed the dog but for convenience the poor pusses get cat food.
Look up BARF on Google, it stands for something quite technical that I can't remember but is basically Bones And Raw Food..0 -
Princess_Jane wrote: »Does anyone know where I could get a chart which shows WHEN pets have been fed?
The older cat will eat in moderation, but the middle and younger cat will literally eat whatever is available until they are sick.
It's got to the point now where they will follow you every time you go into the kitchen, crying for food. .
I've got two - one indoor & other sometimes outdoor hunter - the former will just eat & eat!:T0 -

One of my furry crew was sick on the stairs last night after scoffing some OOH mussels.

ok
well been looking into this for some time and as far as i can make out its a nightmare..
Soooooooooooooooooooo what am i going to do?
I will go for the Royal Canin dry food and then 1-2 times a week give them a little wet mixed in with it (also from Royal Canin)
It seems the cheaper stuff (eg supermarket own or whiskers etc) can cause a load of problems.
i also brush my cats teeth twice a week.
getting them to drink is also a nightmare..
plastic bowls aint good it seems
nor are metal water bowls...
going for a porcelain option.
Water fountains...maybe a good idea BUT effort to keep running and they all seem to be a pain in the bum.
feliway diffusers..are also something to look into.
oh and put water bowl and food bowls far apart from each other.
the things we do for these cats..and to say thank you they make a mess and sleep all day
i read a lot of conflicting info and it seems every vet recommends hills ..(something must be going on there)The orginal post in this thread has a very very slim chance of being about money saving. The post is more than likely to ask a question that google could answer better than any of us.0 -
UPDATE re feeding charts for cats -
My v clever OH created a chart in Excel with the cats' names and space to record what time they are being fed.
Much easier now, as I can see they are often pleading famine to me an hour after he has fed them.
less cat food - lower spends - hurrah!
if anyone would like a copy I could email one to them, but apparently it's quite simple to create, if you ain't a doofus like what I is.DEBT FREE! Sep '08/£9,800 in Oct '06 :beer:0 -

Burns is also good & cheaper than Hills.
I put my water bowl between the food bowls & my 2 are fine with that.
Alot of cuddles for cats goes a long way :0)
Well done with the brushing cats teeth - I applaud you.:T Personally I find Logic applied directly along the sides of their gums works fine.0
