    Hi and welcome along.

I also gave up my job last year (for me it was to become a full time carer, which I am hoping is only temporary) and its been an interesting experience.

Not working and having to watch the pennies very carefully means Old Style Living is essential for us, and I have learned so much along the way.

If nothing else its nice to know other people are in the same boat as you!
    Good luck with it.

Hi & welcome. Old-style is my favourite forum. I took voluntary redundancy earlier this year so for the first time ever we're on one wage & I am at home 'doing the housekeeping' or rather as I think of it, I'm the Chief Domestic Economist. My Old-Style skills have so far ensured that we have not really noticed our significant drop in income. I joked with my partner the other day that one of my jobs is 'to make every £ do the work of two'. It sounds trite, but when I think of the amount of money we both used to waste in the past & the amount we were committing to debt repayments (now all paid off), it seems extraordinary that something as simple as proper budgeting & household management has meant we can live more or less the same after losing my entire income. Welcome & good luck..... there are some really helpful people on here & I am still finding new things to learn.

    Hi and welcome.

This too is my new home. I am slowly becoming OS myself and picking up information daily. It's truly inspirational and I find that I have a new appreciation of life. My reason for the change is to pay off my debt which is so hard for me but I am slowly getting there.

I am disgusted at what I used to waste in every area of life, finanacially and emotionally. Time and money are precious and this site's made me realise that.

    Enjoy the ride!!!

PS Congratulations to foxgloves on becoming debt free - one day I hope to say that :)

Welcome, i'm a newbie to the OS threads too but I love them.

I couldn't agree more about the meal planning tip. Into my 2nd week now of proper budgeting and meal planning and it is truly amazing at how little I have spent on groceries, but still eaten very well and no waste like I used to have. I thought there would be protests from the kids about not having various things in I used to buy before but not a peep. I have been home baking much more than normal and they seem to like that better than anything from the shops anyway.

    Good luck!

    Hi Seanymph,

Welcome to Old Style :) Good luck with the house move tomorrow.

As your thread has dropped down the board I've added it to the Getting to know you sticky at the top of the board where everyone introduces themselves. I hope you'll find lots of help on the Old Style board.

Welcome 'Tryinghardtosave' and good luck. I have only been seriously budgeting, meal planning etc for a week and cannot believe I haven't done it before. It becomes addictive trying to get the good deals and eat well for less. It can be done. Loads of great stuff on here, enjoy

I am ashamed to say I used to do the veg shopping bit on a wing and prayer and without meal planning. Consequently by the end of the week my off stuff went over to the farm for the hens and ducks to peck around. Now I meal plan and also work out what veg I need and it makes it so much more easier and cheaper. OH said tonight we'll have a chinese, I said no we won't we've got steak new potatoes and salad and it's all accounted for :D

Just one final thing, I find everyone, and I mean everyone, in here so decent and accommodating, open to new ideas and options. Suggestions on what might and what won't suit. I am not going down to that bloody pub - The Moneysaversarms - again they are all at one anothers throats there. So if you don't mind fellow oldstylers I shall pull up chair, pour myself a glass of wine and have a drinky with you all in here :D

    Hello peeps

Well you will see I registered some time ago (so long ago I had totally forgotten I'd done it ;)) but now I am finally plucking up the courage to join in the conversation!

I am 24, married and currently saving up for a deposit to get out of rented accomodation so that's a great motivator. I have been picking up your tips for a while so my latest money saving effort is to start trying to head down to the market for cheap veggies. Meal planning I have nailed :T

Looking forward to getting stuck in properly on the boards
