Hello everyone,
I have been a long time lurker and thought it was about time that I stepped out of the shadows and introduced myself.
I live with OH and work full time and share my garden with nine hens. We also try and grow a few vegetables which usually run to seed..
I love variety of the"Old Style" posts on this site, as people are willing to share their experiences and provide encouragement to those who need it.
I hope that you will allow me to join in?:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -
No problem Chickenopolis the more ideas we can bounce off one another the better. Big one thread going at the moment is unbelievably preparing for winter because the weatermen say we could be in for another horrible one!
Welcome :beer:Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

Hi All
Longtime lurker first time poster!
Enjoy the oldstyle board a lot so thought I'd join in and say hello.
30 year old bloke living between my own place here in North Warks and my other half's place in North London.
Though the distance can be annoying during the week life is pretty fun for us at the weekends splitting our time between the country and the city - long walks in the country one week and the joys of london the next!
Long term the plan seems to be to work on our careers, get sorted financially and both being country boys at heart eventually live happily ever after in the country / by the sea!
Was brought up by a an old school family who set me on the right path when it comes to work / life / money and with 2 self employed parents during the 90's recession know how to cope with tough times.
Was lucky to get on and up the property ladder in my 20s and currently working hard to pay off my my mortgage on grumpbear hall completely over the next 5-10 years - life permitting!
Looking forward to seeing you on the boards!

Hi grumpy and everyone else! I'm a newbie too...this is only my second or third post but I love MSE and use it quite a bit.
I'm an Old Style girl at heart, I love to be thrifty and frugal having been brought up in a household where a chicken does 5 meals, plastic bags are washed out and reused many times and if you're cold you put another jumper on :-)
Although I love to save money and cut costs I have also had a bit of a spending habit in the past which I'm constantly trying to control, this month I've been doing really well though (Yay me!!) so I plan to visit the boards more often to get inspiration/motivation and hopefully help others save some money!

hello... I'm a newbie and a long term (dare I say it!) bit of a miser. Growing up skint has a lot to answer for! grrr... anyhow - my inherited tightness skills (thankyou parents!) are doing me well as the boyf has debt (which I knew about before we got together - which probably makes me more of an idiot - but hey) so I'm sort of supporting us. My family still remains skint so I have to bail them out everynow and then as I have a good(ish) job which is fairly secure (... runs off and touches LOTS of wood)...
I'd like to save as much as I can as I have a lot of (self imposed I admit it!) financial responsibilities, but I also want to start saving for a house deposit. As money is getting tighter due to global economics I need to be able to make sure my Mum is comfortable (Dad sadly 'popped off' 7 years ago... very much missed by all) my sis is OK (low wage earner and single parent) and also nephew (who may or may not go the Uni). I believe that family is important. I was lucky and I passed some exams... therefore I want to see my family OK. But I'm selfish to want a house for myself.0 -
Nice to meet you novatvstar. You are so right - family is important. Hope you enjoy yourself in Old Style - there are lots of threads and info!

Many thanks - I've already (electronically) met loads of nice folk
and I have to admit - I'm feeling very comfy already. The OH is cooking pasta with veg from the the garden and bacon off cuts...
He makes his own pasta. TOTALLY recommend people start as it tastes sooooo much better and it IS really easy. Takes him minutes. He bought a pasta machine from someone (he paid £5) who got one as a wedding present but didn't want it about 4 years ago and it's the same brand and type that is going for about 50 quid in some posh kitchen shops. I kid you not.0 -

Welcome to OS, you will like all the stuff on here.
You are not selfish for wanting to buy a house for yourself. you work hard, you take care of your family so you deserve to have what YOU want too.

Hello! I've been lurking for about 4 years, despite having been a regular(ish) poster before that, but that's a long and boring story!
The way prices are rocketing when my poor old wages are standing still is giving me the collywobbles. It's always been a bit tight financially, but I can now feel that noose getting a bit tighter every week.
I don't know what else to write, and I can't find the smileys to do an embarrassed blush!:snow_grin"Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow........":snow_grin0 -
Hi - like Ceegee I am a long time lurker.
I've been wasteful and careless with money for most of my working life - after a fairly poor childhood - perhaps I was rebelling?
Now as I am approaching retirement (at the moment - who knows what the retirement age will be in a couple of years time:eek:) I want to get a grip of my finances and my lifestyle.
I'd like to clear my credit card and my mortgage and carry out some work on the house; start budgeting, sensible shopping and meal planning.
I need to declutter the house and get into a cleaning routine. I'd like to start growing my own vegetables, but my garden needs a lot of work first.
Just browsing the OS threads inspires me to at least make a start - I am going to take it in small steps and take heart from all the kind and knowledable people here:).£2 Savers Club 2013 - £28
