Just got 8 bottles of champagne on double the difference:

SEL = £14.00 for Francois Dubois instead of £28.00

Bought 8 bottles for £224 minus a 5% discount for buying more than 6.

Spoke to customer service who checked SEL and the SEL was 1 day out of date.

Offered £14 per bottle refund but pointed to the double the difference sign behind desk and after a lot of discussion given the full £224 refund minus the 5% discount as they stated I could not have back more than I paid- so unfair!!

So walked out with 8 bottles basically free of charge!!:j

Please be gentle with me as this is my first post, but I don't understand the above...if the SEL is out of date do stores have to honour the discounted price isn't it an 'offer' by the store???

Thanks in advance for explaining to a newbie.

Hello and welcome to the forum. There is a Tesco pledge board behind most customer service desks that states something like: "if you are charged more than the price on the shelf label then Tesco will pay you double the difference"

So although out of date they honoured the above pledge- although not very happy about it!!!

Thanks heskpesk, roll on dtd's !!!!!
  • They don't have to, but customer services will go and check, and at Mr T's you'll def get DTD, It's worth checking sel's dates anyway, they don't always keep them up to date.

So true. Tescos will do DTD on an OOD SEL. The policy does not state that expired labels are not included. If they ever try and say it doesn't include OOD SELs read the board out to them.. "If you are charged more than on the product or ON THE SHELF..." then ask them where it says OOD's are excluded.

If they still insist that they are right, ask them to call head office customer services. It is a freephone number so will not cost them anything!!!

Just got back from Mr. T's where their offer of two 1Kg bags of cat food should be £5.00, but went through at £8.00 - £6.00 back - thankyou very much!
