Just take it back. I'm seldom pressed for a receipt. Or you could buy one item and then hand them that as a receipt. Not to deceive them, they sometimes just need to enter a receipt number for their own red tape.
Their ts and cs say '7 days' but the law says 'reasonable time'0 -

You were lucky, as there was no proof you hadn't just picked it up off the shelf. I don't think I would have bothered for that reason.
I did have something I wanted to take back as DH bought 2 (mislaid the 1st one, of course it turned up later) but it was past 28 days to take back. I'll put on car boot sale instead.0 -
Pounland at The Fort had some brilliant CDs in today that were refurbs. They were all in celephane packaging and are as good as new.
Some of the ones that jumped out were:
Girls Aloud, Britney Spears, Travis, Embrace, Sheryl Crow, TLC, Ronan Keeting, Gwen Steffani, Garbage, Robbie Williams, Westlife, Boyzone, The Corrs, Will Young, Daniel Beddingfield and Destiny's Child. And quite a few Now compilations.:D
They also had lots of weigth watchers stuff :T and this stuff for ur dentures that my nana swears is as good as poligrip:rotfl::rotfl:Survey Queen/Poundland Fanatic:rotfl:0 -

The poster (Saveforfuture) had mentioned her husband buying "useless items". That sounded like an opinion of the sense of buying them rather than the quality of the goods.
The "law" doesn't deal with someone deciding that their OH spent money on something they didn't need. It deals with faulty goods.0 -
