  • Did you use the same firmware file for the Medion and the Navman? I ask because there's a Medion version of the firmware that's newer than the Mitac version..

5.1 contains mainly bug fixes and improved hardware compatability. I'd say if you're entitled to it, upgrade.
  • Just received mine this morning. VERY DISAPPOINTED. It has come used with the screen scratched and is quite clearly a used returned. I have placed a return email to dabs.com but of course there are no telephone contact numbers! Lets see what there customer services are like.
I shall keep you all informed

Placed my order Thursday when only a few left in stock.

Order went through and stock available on site went down by the one I ordered. Now when I look at the order status it says out of stock and discontinued. No email from them advising this, and it WAS in stock when I placed my order.

Lets see what their customer service is like now.

No response from customer services yet, I have since filed another returns email and am waiting. Not very happy as they don't do replacements and are now showing discontinued!!!!!

are you outside?....the GPS unit doesn't work very well inside houses. It can also take a good few minutes on first use to get a signal

which model have u got? u may have to change the gps settings for the mapping software to work with that particuler pda.

on the gps screen u should have a number of options, on this screen u should also be able to check if its trying to connect to the satelites at all,if not you definatly need to change the gps and the cable settings.

as said above it will take a while to locate the sats when first used and even longer if indoors.

It is the Pin 300.I took it out today but all it says is waiting for GPS.It doesn't show its picking up any satalites at all.

I had a PIN 300 for a while and the GPS did not work at all. If I remember correctly for this model you must make sure that you have COM2 selected and 4800 baud and check that the GPS box is ticked. But mine never worked.

I returned it to Dabs for a refund and since bought a Navman Pin 570 from Currys. This runs on COM8 and 9600 baud and got a first fix in about 4 minutes from a cold start outside and stationary. If you move around it makes a first fix much more difficult.

I think the Dabs units may well have been refurbs or returns because mine came in a box with three Navman seals, two of which were broken. If yours came from Dabs I bet it's a dud.

Both the above models were bought as a present for a friend. My personal GPS equipment is an MDA Vario PDA/Phone running TomTom Navigator 5.21 with a Holux GPSlim 236 bluetooth receiver. This gets a first fix in about 30 seconds and can do so while on the move or indoors. It is a much more sensitive unit (Sirfstar III chip) than the Navman Pin models.
