    Thanks rogerramjet,

Bought this for a friend, so will carry out the update when she brings it round.

Looks like the microdirect folk will be disappointed:-

    Dear Customer,

The Navman PIN 300 your have shown an interest in is being rather difficult to get hold of before Christmas. I have a large back order on with Navman but due to the time of year they don't believe I will see the units until the New Year.

As not to disapoint people looking for a Christmas bargain we have some alternatives in at the moment.
    ...

:( Although Dabs.com may still have them
    Waddle you do eh?

For those who have received their PIN 300 (mine arrived this afternoon), have you had any luck actually getting a GPS signal? I've fully charged mine, fired up the nav software and sat it in a south facing window for an hour or two. There is no sign of any GPS signal at all. There appears to be conflicting information about baud rates in the online help. I've tried COM2 with 4,800 and 57,600 baud and still nothing. I took a 20 minute walk around the block and still nothing.

I can't muck about installing extra software and updates as I actually bought this on behalf of a friend to give to her b/f for Xmas. I offered to charge and set it up but I think the software will be too invasive on my laptop as I already have my own PPC device and don't want different versions of ActiveSync conflicting etc. etc..

How do I get the GPS to work? Thanks :-)

Well I've bitten the bullet and installed the PC software - not so bad after all - my existing ActiveSync 4.1 install seems to work OK and running in Guest mode it is not going to mess up my PIM data. I've updated the software and added all UK maps to the PPC as well but still I am getting no satellites found at all.

I guess my (friends's) unit is DOA. Everything except GPS seems fine though.

If you are using software other than the navigator and have run navigator proir to running the other software there is a higher probablity that the unit will not log a signal as the navigator software is alleged to make changes to the gps settings. If you have done this, you will need to hard reset the unit.

I did a firmware upgrade on the unit I'd got for my sister...I'm not sure if that helped or the fact that I'd hard reset the unit as I'd run navigator prior to placing third party software onto it.

Thanks for the reply. I have not loaded any software other than the Navman stuff. Still no success at all :-( and now there's no more stock so a replacement might be difficult.

I grabbed one of these this morning (Navman pin) for OH for Christmas. They only had one in stock and it now says they are discontinued.I don't have a clue about satnavs so I hope I'm not going to regret it.

Just to let people know, I have had no success at all in getting the GPS part of my Navman PIN 300 working and I have tried repeatedly with no success. It appears to me that either the GPS components are faulty or the firmware for the GPS. Everything else that I have tried seems OK but without the GPS it's useless.

This was bought as an Xmas present and I'm just glad I checked it out straight away rather than waiting till Xmas day. Dabs allow fuss free returns for faulty goods returned within 28 days. I think waiting till Xmas to find out is leaving it too late. Even then their returns policy says to expect 4-6 eweeks for resolution. Well that's not much use for Xmas.
