Hi to everyone
I have a Samsung 37" lcd tv with built in freeview and a Sagem freeview box with 80gb hard drive. Freeview built in to the tv gives a much better picture than the freeview from the Sagem box, anybody know why?
Thanks
Andy

Could be various reasons,
Your TV has a more up to date chip set and as a result gives you a better picture.
Your set top box converts the digital freeview signal to analog and then outputs it to your TV via the Scart lead, the TV the does another A-D conversion, thus losing quality.
You may have your set top box and Scart set to composite video, RGB would give a slightly better result. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Correct RGB would be better. Samsung software for their digital board is one of the best out there. Panasonic also do a good system in their tv's. Humax make a better box than sagem for a few more notes. That's Mr CrapBag to you...;)0

Thanks for that swift supply penrhyn, the picture looks like it is digital and is set to RGB,the two problems seem to be a slightly blown up picture and brighter than through my idtv. As there seems to be no settings on the menu to adjust these i will put it down to the chip set.
Thanks

Most people use very poor quality scart leads (or indeed ANY leads)
20 quid would buy a fairly decent one and once burned in (using it for 6 months) would produce much better esults. But all the newer tvs as mentioned above dont need to transfer the signal so will nearly always be better (accept maybe the new breed of upscaling freeviews through hdmi):idea:0 -

Please explain more. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
All cables. In fact EVERYTHING electrical in any way has a BURN IN period. That is electricity flowing through it over a period of time. Most dvd and cd players have approx 1 to 2 days solid burning in period. Speakers can be 6 months to a year. Tvs can be a year plus! This basically means that their attributes change over time and will only SETTLE after the initial burning in stage.
In the case of the scart cable, a newly bought one will take approx 6 months burning in to be at its optimum viewing (screen will be sharper, more 3 dimensional and have better colours)
The very best cables (though its entirely down to how theyre made) are solid silver BRAIDED (entwined) to allow as much detail as possible down with as little background noise as possible. These however are damned expensive.
And the actual best upgrades to make to begin with are MAINS CONDITIONERS and silver plated copper MAINS LEADS! Always start with the mains and work on through:idea:0 -

I will be interested to see what other forum members have to say on this subject. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
I suspect my thoughts are the same as yours, pure and unadulterated "TOSH". Next he'll be saying after my kettle lead has "burned in" my kettle will boil faster and save me some electric.0

Look
You can say whatever you like ~ but I KNOW my hifi
If you need to see that this stuff exists goto RUSSANDREWS website
Or Nordost. or search on ebay under silverplated mains cables
Look to see what hifi enthusiasts have their hifis connected with
ohhh ~ theres evidence all around
and if you think its TOSH then give me specifics and ill put you to rights
I know a lot of people dont believe in it because theyve never seen it first hand. Ive recently set a friends up and he couldnt believe the difference after just one month:idea:0 -
