Use nothing! I did once (by mistake) and everything came out clean anyway!!! I have to add that this was underwear, socks etc - so not dirty as such - just needed freshening!
If you have it I suppose some fabric softener in the usual drawer section would make it smell nice.0 -
can you hand wash the stuff in the bath? you could use Fairy."The purpose of Life is to spread and create Happiness" :j0

I'm amazed Sunlight Soap makes an appearance!
I have a couple of bars of this from when I worked for Lever Bros in Port Sunlight - never seen it since! Does anywhere sell this? I've been guarding my few bars viciously!
it's still available in a few countries. I guess the 'recipe' originated in a country where you can still buy it.
OP-in those circs. I've gone round with a small cup and begged my neighbour0 -
I've run out of washing powder, and i've got to wash some clothes for tomorrow!
Is washing up liquid safe to use on clothes?
Any other suggestions welcome.just passing through.... Nothing to see....0 -
soap will do, dissolve some and pour into wachine machine, or rub onto the worst stained areas and throw in machine.0

Washing up liquid is perfectly safe to use on clothes as is bubblebath, showergel or even shampoo! But be very careful of using any of them in the WM as it's all too easy to overdose, and then you'll have suds everywhere. If it's only a couple of items you need, I'd wash by hand using any of the above and then just spin in the machine. You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0

When I ran out of washing tablets I put a wash in the machine without them and it came out as clean as if I'd used the tablets. It might have been excess residue in the machine or perhaps the detergent manufacturers are conning us all.
PTTLife is too short to waste a minute of it complaining about bad luck. Find joy in the simple things, show your love for those around you and be grateful for all that you have.0 -
good point princesstippytoes. That's proper Old Style. Did they use salt as an abrasive agent years ago?0
