OS Daily for MOnday 4th August 2008

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Monday 4th August 2008. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

HI everyone; thought I'd start the thread this morning - hope I don't overlap with anyone else; I usually do!

(((Hugs))) to Smoky, PenPin, Jayward, Candygirl's Dad, Essex-girl's Dad, Beth and her DBs and, also, to Squiggly's DD and all her friends.

Squiggly - over the last few years my DS2 has lost four friends in tragic circumstances. All you can do is be there - their friends do all gather together in one house and take great comfort from being together. You so want to stop them feeling the hurt and shock. On each occasion they collected money and had benches with their friends' names on them put in their favourite recreation ground
and that went a long way toward helping them all start to come to terms with what had happened. On the anniversary of each of them, they all go round and sit on the benches and 'talk' to their friends. On one occasion, DS2 was a pallbearer - he was 17 at the time and it broke my heart to see how grown-up he suddenly seemed. The boy's Mum had asked him to go round and choose the clothes he thought her son would like to be buried in which I thought was such a moving thing for her to do. A sad sad time, Squiggly, and your DD will just want you there to talk to over the next few weeks and months.

Dazi - sending (((hugs))) to you; I've just read last night's post and the ex-W sonds like a really nasty person.

Shelbell - welcome to you. You've found a great thread!

Sunnyday - I used to make wine years ago and was always surprised at how good it was - even the one made from cold tea (which was great because it was ready in three weeks from start to finish)! Years ago we had a barbecue and the tea wine went down really well but we forgot that it's so much stronger than shop-bought wine and we've never forgotten the larger-than-life hangovers. I have a picture of one of my friends drinking wine straight from the demi-john! My DH keeps saying I should get back into making it because it works out so cheap, especially when you use whatever's in season. After Christmas, I may have another go.

Well, I'd better go and get DH up for work.

See you later.

Good morning, Mioliere, and all that follow. :) Off to work in a moment, but am just making sure the train is on time and getting my fix of OS! :D More wedding plans to be made today - I'm going to ask someone at work about ordering my dress for me via eBay (I've seen a really nice one I like) and I have my fingers crossed that it'll work. If not, I've got some friends that could order it for me, but I spend a lot of time at work and it makes sense to get it sent there. ;)

(((hugs to those in need))) I really must write my shopping list tonight, plus am making yummy toad in the hole for tea. Mmm, must check cupboard to see if I've got beans in. Beyond that, nothing but work and planning planned. Have a good day everyone.

Morning Mioleire, Frugalswan and all to follow.

Squiggly, (((hugs))) for your DD and the friends and family of her friend.

Sun is shining here in Essex and I think the forcast is dry so will do some washing in a mo. Doing essential paperwork this morning then think we are going to try and get out on a canal ride later.

No idea what to have for dinner so will have a look in the freezer in a bit.

Have a great day all whatever you are doing.

Good morning mioliere and frugalswan, and all who i cross with and who follow!!

    :hello: mrs mix and Taplady

((HUGS)) to all who need/want one xxx

Been busy over the weekend not doing much really, so didnt really have anything OS to report!!

Rant alert now tho - had the a*se on the phone last night to the children, and he asked DD if she was going to go and stay with him at the end of the month when DS goes up (only 3 nights, 4 days) but she said no - now instead of leaving it until nearer the time like i advised him, he then had a big go at her, calling her a baby etc so she ended up even worse, coming off the phone in tears! It makes me so angry, he left when she was 18 months old, knows she has always been very clingy to me, that she has no confidence and she has hardly seen him (went through a patch once until i shouted at him where if she wouldnt sleep over, which has only happened 2 - 3 times in her life (she is 10 now) he wouldnt see her) and then he wonders why she doesnt want to travel all the way to Bristol to stay with him. So, loads of text messages last night, ive ended up turning my phone off, so dont know whats waiting for me when i turn it on this morning, more abuse i expect! Ive always said i am happy for her to go (although im not so sure now!) but ive let it be her decission, maybe if he made more effort it would be different! So, of course, we now have gone back to Miss Clingy, she was back in my bed last night, so all the good work that was done on her recent school trip away had been undone - Well done her a*se dad!!

Sorry about that, it just makes me so mad, he rings once a week (not always that, and if DS is outside when the phone goes, he will speak to him and unless DD is out with him, wont wait the 10 seconds for DS to come inside and let DD have the phone!) some weeks he doesnt even ring, but sends a text message saying hes busy, doesnt offer any support with anything and heaven help us if we really need help, almost makes me beg and then will only offer half at the most - i need some help with DSs football fees, prob no hope now because it will be my fault DD doesnt want to see him!

Anyway, today - need to go to Mr Ts for milk and fruit - i dont have any work which although makes the day a lot easier, is a pain money wise, and i really want to get into the childrens rooms and do a big sort out - wasnt able to do the car boot yesterday as it was horrible weather, im hoping that it will be ok for next week as it would be nice to have some extra money to take to London with us!

We will be in London on the afternoon of the 12th, going home on the 14th - so if any one is around and would like to meet up, that would be lovely!!!

Well, ive waffled on far too long (you can all wake up again now!!)
Hope everyone has a lovely day,
    Take care xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Oh Cat, I'm so sorry your ex has upset DD.
Hugs to PP, all you can do is be there when the !!!!!! hits the fan, it is so difficult when kids are involved.
Hugs to Squiggly, BIL had a call from one of his kids yesterday to say a friend had been killed in a car accident.
Hugs to Dazi, I had a long conversation with BIL on Saturday, he was explaining how he would always feel the need to support his ex & I was explaining that it could affect any future relationship. TBH, I think if the ex found someone new, BIL wouldn't see her for dust.
Todays plans include finding the floor in my bedroom, going to the PO & cooking sausage & mash for tea.
    Hugs Hester

Catowen, I'm a bit of a returning newbie to this board but just wanted to send you hugs. Things like that get stuck in your head.

Just read Squiggly's news on yesterdays thread and that too needs hugs, this world just doesn't make sense at times, even less in those formative confusing young adult years.Feel free to take more hugs as required :) I've received so many from this forum recently and they all mean so much.

Today I have half heartedly attempted to empty the DW, but the kettle boiled before I finished so decided to have some wake up caffeine before continuing with anything practical and have been sitting on the PC for the best part of an hour.

I need to stop talking and get on with flyladying in a minute.

Will attempt a chicken pie tonight after defrosting a yellow stickered pack of thighs and drumsticks. Just need a recipe ! Have some ready made pastry in fridge - also yellow stickered.

Have more ironing demanding attention and WM thinks it's pipes have been disconnected as I've had an incredibly lazy weekend with the children.

    So off I go...honest !

Well, got up at 5 and made a list of to do things, pack case for our 4 day break in Portsmouth, looking forward to seeing the Barbican, never been there. Sort out fridge, finish ironing pile, put second coat of paint in Shower room. I emptied it y/day prept and applied 1st coat. Pay bills and phone DMum at the hosp. BM on and have washed dishes by hand to save elec on DW.

My B/card has been frozen, I tried using it on Thurs online but there was a stop put on it. Phoned B/card and they said it had been used for unusual purchases and asked if I had bought over £3000 worth of goods on Wed:eek:
No way! Can't access my account online. A new card will be sent out sometime this week, Oh well will just have to use DH's card whilst we are in Plymouth

Right, another coffee and tackle the painting.

Big hugs for Miss Catowen (and her mum)

Managed a bit more ironing last night, joy.
No idea what's for tea, I'm sure I'll unearth something if I have a fridge/freezer rummage.
Off now to get some bits and pieces for work and then I'm helping my mum for a couple of hours this morning, picking up heavy laundry bags.

    Hugs to all

    Morning all

Hugs to Catowen and Dazi - why do people have to be so selfish, it seems to only be ME ME ME Cat - you would think that what was best for the children came into the equation, can't understand why he would insist she came to visit knowing she didn't want to and wouldn't be happy  And Dazi, she sounds like a very selfish woman and some of her selfishness has rubbed off big time onto the daughter. Why does it have to come down to money every time??? I am sure your hubby spends lots of time and effort with her, which is worth much much more than how much money he throws at her  ......... and relax

Am going up to London today to give the my Mum's keys back to the Council. Then I will pop into Bluewater on the way back to see if there are any bargains to be had for my up and coming holiday. Would like to get some comfy sandals so will have a browse and see what they have. Home to the ironing, can't wait ;)

    Have a good day all
