    Thanks but what is "WSC"?

So far in this thread we've had WAC, WCA, WLR and now WSC

I work for a telecomunications provider in their Line Rental dept, and can hopefully shed some light on the abreviations shown above, essentially WAC = Wholesale Access Calls, WCA = Wholesale Calls Access and WSC = Wholesale Calls are all different abreviations meaning the same thing, the correct term is WCLI = Wholesale Calls Line Associated. as for WLR, this means Wholesale Line Rental, this is where BT, Openreach rent out lines to other providers like Talk Talk and sky, to sell on the line rental to their customers. I hope this helps.

Is it definite then that keeping line rental with BT and having calls from someone else via CPS be it Sky, Primus or anyone else will still allow you to use 1280 to route via BT?

If BT's statement only applies to people who have moved their line rental it is extremely misleading.

It is NOT true that if you keep your line rental with BT and have calls with another provider that uses WCLI (see previous post) that you will be able to use 1280, the definitiv eanswer is that if your CPS provider uses WCLI you should not be able to use 1280, and incidentily neither will you be able to use BT CALL BARRING.

To be pedantic, if your provider is using WCLI, they're not a CPS operator because CPS means the calls are routed to a third party network. However, the issue at hand is that many providers were previously CPS operators and have outsource their network provision to BT via WCLI...without telling their customers. So on a month by month basis, it's impossible to know for sure if your provider will continue to use CPS...they may do now so you're ok, but next month they may outsource to BT behind the scenes and you'll lose 1280.

Personally, I think that 1280 should act to force your calls to BT Retail (as a service provider), but unfortunately it's been designed to force calls onto BT network, meaning that if your provider's outsourced to BT the effect of dialling 1280 is nil.
I really must stop loafing and get back to work...

I pay my line rental to BT, but route my calls through TalkTalk Onetel. I have been using 1280 to route 0845 and 0870 calls through BT, as they are a bit cheaper for these, as well as making enough calls to get free call minder and caller display. I only discovered recently that 1280 had been removed, when BT charged me for these services.

I found out what was going on from this thread. I contacted TalkTalk who said that 1280 was a BT service that had been withdrawn, but that I had always been able to route calls through BT by using the prefix 1877. I'm sure I had never been informed of this number. I hope it helps others. I've yet to confirm that it works.

And when I complained to BT, they did refund me the service charges for that quarter.

It won't. One reason: 1877 routes calls from the BT network to the OneTel network, not the other way round.

I don't think any of the codes will work. I'm on Pipex and used 1280 to route to BT in order to get free caller display. My employer also added a service from Cable & Wireless to my line to I could route calls to work via this (162 prefix), and that has also stopped working. It's immaterial from that point of view since I now get free geo calls anyhow but it's a bit of a shame to lose free caller display.
  • In my think BT give permission to to access all of services provider, and according my knowledge BT website did are not suite able for free or for other aimed.

Can we have that in English please.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
