Changes to BT 1280

I have a BT residential landline and a CPS contract with Primus. Today (Saturday) morning I dialled 1280 to access BT's free 0870 calls. As soon as I dial 1280 I get a continuous tone indicating the number is unobtainable. Very bad news for Primus CPS customers. MoneySaving Expert should publish a blacklist of CPS providers blocking 1280 and let consumer pressure do the rest. I'm SO CROSS about Primus's unfair treatment of a good customer I'm thinking of cancelling my contract with them and going back to BT.0

Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

are you using an orchid dialler. The reason I ask is that your dialler could be adding another cps code as well.

Just wondering if this could be a way to make some calls with BT if 1280 doesn't work:Never miss another voicemail message with BT 1571 Text Alerts. Sign up now and you'll get a text to your mobile phone as soon as you receive a new 1571 voicemail. Just call home and the message will be relayed to your mobile.
Text Alerts are charged to your home number at standard rates. If you have our Unlimited Evening & Weekend or Unlimited Anytime Plan the texts can be taken from your inclusive BT Text bundle.
To sign up for BT 1571 Text Alerts, call 0800 389 5660. We will send a text message to your mobile to confirm your order. You can use any valid UK mobile number.
Please note that currently only one mobile can be linked to one mailbox. In order to retrieve messages remotely, press the * button during the greeting message. This service only works in the UK.
† Texts are charged at the standard rate to a UK mobile. Opt in required. BT Answer or Call Minder required.
Obviously only works if you want 1571. And if you get a lot of messages left, you could end up with a large bill (unless you go for one of the plans with inclusive texts).
No idea if this would work, but just a thought.

Works perfectly for me.
FYI, my evening & weekend calls are routed through to Primus as my CPS with whom I have been for five years now.0 -

Remember, only 'in plan' 0845/0870 calls will be free on BT now - so if, like most people who use a CPS calls provider, you are on BT's lowest package (the Unlimited Weekend Plan), using the 1280 prefix will only get you free 0845/0870 calls at weekends.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. What BT calls plan are you on?

Also, thank you BT for nowt but I wil not 'upgrade' or enter into any of your contracts that lock me in for a minimum period. And they have the gall to offer in those plans FREE Customer Support, how nice of them.
Finally, like you I hate 1571, it is just another BT excuse to make easy money.0 -
