BT Chargecard arrived today, are there any extra charges associated with use of the card (can't find details on BT website)?

Plan to use it for the 0844 international override numbers for calling abroad. Just a couple a month as this should satisy free caller display criteria.
I think you'll find 0844 calls will probably be a lot more expensive than you think (see HERE).

If I'm reading that right, calls to g9 rate 0844 numbers (just under 2p/minute from your residential line) will cost 19.75p/minute!

Even 01/02 calls will cost 11.75p/minute.

Update 17/8/09. BT company representative has now done an about-turn on this and confirmed that chargecard calls do NOT count as chargeable calls. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/...3&postcount=11
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Crikey, no wonder they make it so hard to find!

Just as well the calls didn't connect properly anyway!! I've made two calls now so should be ok for caller display this month :D

hi all, first post on this forum, so be gentle.

Just doing a bit of research in to BT Chargecards.

At the moment bt is offering free “New line connection “,

as long as you make 10 calls (chargeable to bt) a month, for the term of the contract (18 months).

What I would like to know is could I move my calls over to orange so I could have broadband for

free, and use the bt charge card to make the 10 calls a month??

also about BT Chargecard pricing, I've had a look myself and for uk to uk local call it`s 12p a min,

but is there a minimum call charge?

    Like 5mins x 12p = 60p??

or is It charged by the minute only?

Thanks for any info you can provide.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I am in the process of changing my calls back to BT from Talk Talk.

I had a letter last week from BT saying I can start taking advantage of my new plan by dialing 1280. So I have been doing this.

I have just logged into Tak Talk and I have called to be billed of around £4.00 but I cannot see where you can see a breakdown of unbilled calls to double check.

Are my calls not going back to BT, are Talk Talk going to charge me for calls pre fixed 1280?

    many thanks

Can't be sure but, unless the switch has actually taken place, it's likely your calls are still going via Talk Talk, despite the 1280 prefix.

I found these on the AOL Talk FAQ, can't say its the same for all call providers for sure, although seems plausable.

Are there any numbers I cannot call using AOL Talk?

No. AOL Talk customers will be able to make phone calls as normal. However, certain call types are still routed via your BT line. These include calls to emergency services numbers (e.g. 999/112), operator services (e.g. 100/155), and calls to number ranges used for flat-rate Internet access (e.g. starting 0844 04 or 0808 99). If any charges apply for these services, they will appear on your BT bill.

Will my current BT services still work?

The following BT services will continue to be supported with AOL Talk:

141, 1471, BT Call Minder (1571), Plus and Premier, BT Ring Back when Free, BT Call Forwarding, BT Call Diversion, Call Waiting, Call Sign, Caller Display, Reminder Call, and Three-way calling.

Please note that where a service charge applies for the above BT services, this will appear on your BT bill. Calls made by pressing 3 after you have retrieved a number using BT's 1471 service will be billed by BT in accordance with your BT price plan, irrespective of the type of call it is. If you wish to make calls to a number you have retrieved using the 1471 service at AOL's rates, please make a note of the number, and then dial the full number directly.
  • What a performance...just to make a telephone call. Dial this, dial that, put this code number in, option 1, 2 etc. The net result, to make a phone call? Eh? Is it me?

    Yes, most likely.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

Welcome to the MSE forums plainenglish.

I think you've missed the point.

The idea is to save money (the clue is in the name of the site) and that takes a little effort.

Those with bottomless pockets will do the other thing.
