Changes to BT 1280

I must be the last one then. I just received my letter from Sky, dated 7th October, today!
Like some others here I am now completely confused.
I recently discovered Heinz's information and have registered with 18185 and discovered that, the first attempt to use them, they do not cover 0844 calls and it seems that umpteen companies have switched to 0844. So who is cheapest for those calls?
I see that BT are saying £4.95 pm for unlimited Anytime. Is this any good?
Then there is Primus - It would be just my luck to change to them and have them change to the Sky setup where you cannot change providers!?
All advice welcomed so that I can make an informed and CORRECT decision.
Cheers

BT are the cheapest for 0844 calls as only they have to charge the advertised rate, others have started to charge more than the advertised rate.
See if you can find a standard number or freephone number alternative on Say No To 0870.
Best to have BT for line rental, calls automatically through Primus, then place some calls back on BT and others via 18185.
The above is for if you just want evening and weekend calls inclusive for no additional fee over the line rental.
Primus offer calls up to 90 mins in length for no charge and for chargeable calls there isn't a connection fee, but a minimum call charge (which is better) also you can add Penny Mobile and get calls to UK mobiles for 20p for up to 20 mins.
You just need to work out of you make 100 calls to landlines each and every month during the day to make the BT offer worth it - I also think it is a rolling 12 month contract. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
Just to be clear, BexTech, I am currently on Sky Unlimited (£5pm) with BT for line rental.
Are you saying that l should stay with BT for line rental BUT switch to Primus for calls? In other words have my cps - is that what its called?- moved from Sky to Primus - whoever they are!- ?
Are Primus similar to Sky so much a month or are they each individual call?
Sorry to sound like a numbkin.
Cheers

Primus really is OK if you only want inclusive evening and weekend calls - as these there is no charge for, you just pay for the BT line rental adding daytime calls, Primus are dearer.
So if you must also have daytime calls included and don't mind the 12 month rolling contract, then maybe BT is the better option.
If you only made less than 100 daytime calls each month, then you could use Primus for the evening and weekend calls and 18185 for the daytime calls. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... So if you must also have daytime calls included and don't mind the 12 month rolling contract*, then maybe BT is the better option.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

1280 can only be used if you calls are cps. if wholesalecalss. ie sky talk talk etc an yo have been migrated then 1280 is no longer in use. so beware anyone usin overrides when you type over ride call will still go through but you will be billed by you cal provider and cant ovr ride0

I just got my latest bill from Sky.Good news as they are not blocking 18185 as yet.As Heinz said -remember to leave the tariff anouncement message on from 18185 to know if your calls are routed through them.I dont trust Sky very much and will keep monitoring them for blocking overide numbers.........Neil0

Is there anyway of getting 6 calls onto BT via another method? Our BT bill is due next week and thanks to TalkTalk I don't think any calls have been routed to BT through 1280.
If we end up being charged £5.99 or whatever the fee is for 1571 do we have a claim against Talktalk for blocking 1280 without notifying us in advance?
The Talktalk account is in my name and the BT in someone elses.0 -
wakeupalarm the only idea I can think of is you move back to BT and get BT as a gesture (thank you) to refund the charge for this month.0

If you want to fight this, then
(a) You, wakeupalarm, can write to Carphone Warehouse saying that you are paying for the calls that were prefixed by 1280 only under protest, their t&c on this point are unfair and therefore void, you demand a refund by [insert date say 2 weeks off], and if you do not get it you will issue a summons in the County Court.
http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/infoabout/claims/index.htm
(b) The BT customer can write to BT saying (s)he is paying for 1571 [though why have you got this evil service?!], Caller Display ... only under protest, and demanding refund as above.
(c) Both of you can start, and keep going with, formal complaints to Carphone Warehouse and BT, strictly in accordance with their complaints procedures, saying that it's unfair and unacceptable that you cannot make the (at least) weekend calls via BT that you are paying for. When (after some weeks) you reach deadlock, complain to Otelo.
