Congrats BB  you are doing so well, bet it feels great now you are into another year. How long did it take you to knock the 8 years off?Make £10 a day challenge - January 2023 = £292.89/£310 - Feb 2023 = £677.09/280 - March 2023 = £102.45/£310 - April = £300.12/300 - May 2023 = £306.80/£310 - June = £245.88/£150 - July = £295.45/£310 - August 2023 £51.56/£3100 -
8 years reduction is such an achievement. I am sure I have asked this before but too lazy to go back, how long has it taken to knock them 8 years off and how much interest on your mortgage will you have saved compared to how much them 8 years have cost you?
Its reading stories such as your benben that truly will/does inspire people that so much more can be done if we make a little effort and also I think so many people took it for granted that a mortgage just HAS to be for 25 years or so.
Well done x0 -

Thankyou all again for the messages, Welshsaver my ex left us in July 2005 and our mortgage then was £126,000   I paid him £10k to get him off the mortgage (borrowed off a family member at the time), then when I sold the house I paid them back. When I bought this flat (June 2007) my mortgage went down to 60K and I have been saving / overpaying since January 2007, so just over 2 years. However, in that time I have also paid for stuff like moving costs etc, and at the beginning I was only aiming to overpay £200 per month, whereas now I overpay up to £500 per month. Nothing has changed much on the salary front, its actually gone down since I moved, but I have discovered matched betting and aqa and really focused myself on my budget. We do still have holidays although they may not be everyones ideas of a holiday; last year we went to butlins for a few days courtesy of tesco clubcard deals, this year we're going to devon for a week thanks to the Suns cheapie holidays. We're very fortunate to live walking distance to the beach so we can go whenever we like
Today has been a nice day, weather was great again, after school we went to ds swimming lesson then McDonalds for teaThe flat is still 90% tidy so hopefully I won't have to spend half my weekend tidying it up this week
Also, the friend I found via facebook gave me an email address for another friend I'd lost touch with and I sent him an email last night and he'd replied this morning, it was sooo lovely to hear from him, who needs expensive treats ??Mortgage Total: £51,549 / £75,000

Evening all
Ds has just gone to his dads for the weekend and I am waiting for Alliance & Leicester to call me at 7.45 to discuss a mortgage, I feel terribly grown up
I have already made £31 tonight, I had a reload offer from a casino account, if I deposited and bet £25 they would give me £25 .. so a couple of games of roulette later and they credited me with £10  So I emailed them and after having to forward their own email back to them to prove they had sent it to me   they have now credited me with the £25, so after a couple of games where I lost a little bit I have ended up with 31 quid out of about 5 minutes work and 2 emailsSo a pretty good start to the weekend, now to see about the mortgage
My plan this weekend is as follows: mooching around night tonight, gym in the morning with a friend, buy a mothers day pressie tomorrow and a bit of food shopping, then pop in to mums on sunday and have a review at the gym too before I collect ds. In amongst that I need to do some serious moneymaking as I'm currently a bit behind this month, hopefully once I can get the new mortgage sorted then I can focus again on this, although I may need to give the mortgage some more thought this weekend and that all takes time :rolleyes:Mortgage Total: £51,549 / £75,000

Well the mortgage lady rang me ... and I am eligible for the mortgage, they are going to ring me back on monday to do the application but she said based on my income etc it is fine
It means that my payments would decrease by £50 per month, but if I want to keep tham as they are now it will knock 3 years off the mortgage :j :j :j :j Guess how happy I am !!!
It is a 5 yr fix so means I won't officially be mortgage free by my 40th (in 4 yrs 4 mths time), however, I can either (a) have the remaining balance in isa's etc, effectively balancing out the mortgage so in effect I will be mortgage free, or (b) I can move house by then and get somewhere bigger with a gardenI am really really happy with all this although of course I should wait till the application has been approved
I've also had a nice chat with cutie teacher online so am a pretty contented happy bunny tonightMortgage Total: £51,549 / £75,000

ooo... the return of cutie teacher! well done on the mortgage, can you make overpayments on it? my halifax fixed lets me do that up to 10% per annum. also hope you don't mind me asking but I was wondering why you decided against the oneaccount? it's just I'd been considering that one myself...Mortgage OP 2025 £6750/7000Mortgage OP 2024 £7700/7000
