When do we get the rail card? Is that in the welcome pack too?

Yes, it's in the welcome pack, you can apply for it via text message, online or post.

Is it possible to open two student accounts, with two different banks? So I can use multiple free overdrafts?
  • you can but you'll probably be lambasted, a mate of mine did it , it can affect your credit rating etc CCJS etc - stick to 1 don't be greedy
  • Ok I'll go in branch and see if I can get it now. They were the ones in the first place who said I had to wait until the 16th.
  • no overdraft for me today :( oh well... anyone had better luck?

I set mine up online the day my welcome pack came through - Just emailed them my photo. I got it in a week - well before I got my cheque book or my card!

  • I just went into branch they sorted it at the help desk. I suggest you don't phone up, as usual they don't know what they're doing. It was applied for in front of me, accepted and I was told it would be active tomorrow. I forgot to bring the UCAS confirmation letter as well, but they didn't even ask for it.

    Thank-you for your help natweststaffmember.

Can you explain more so I can advise you of any possible solutions?

  • I was wondering if it is possible to open a NATWEST student account, but not have my loans paid into the account, but use it for direct debits more so? Or is part of the criteria to have so much money paid into it?

I was asked when I rang if it was my only student account and if my loan would be paid into it so possibly not? Not sure - sorry.

I've checked my online banking this morning (Keen I know...) and there's been no change on the overdraft amount so perhaps it's not in today? I know it's updated as a couple of payments have been taken out  Will call them at 8am to ask.
