If you read the thread I quote below from Martin Lewis himself regarding this part of the forum, you may well see why some of us get annoyed at some of the more sanctimonious posts on this particular part of MSE

I don't begrudge someone having their opinion but the Money Saver Arms is the place to do it thanks.
Very good point cheap_charlie.

Awwww, did someone go against the grain and 'pick' on you?
Poor thing.0 -

These certainly are the ones I meant.
Did you think we are landed gentry or something ?0 -

Actually I felt very backed into a corner with so many of you sticking your oars in and accusing me of all sorts but with nothing to back up the accusations. I am glad of support. Thank you Graham.0 -

Ahhh I see. Thanks for pointing me in the directions there. Maybe you could all read it yourselves?
Or does judging not apply to all of you? I take it it doesnt, I just can't see that clause there.
You see, after reading, I found it quite amusing that you were all jumping in on KrissKross's posts, accusing her of being sanctimonious, not compasionate enough, picking holes, and insinuating various things.
Apart from one post. Jump on all the others, roll around laughing in your little groups, but one was missed, one post wasnt even mentioned, which I find funny considering you all had such a good time picking a million holes in every other post she made.
Problem was, this post, the one you all decided to miss, totally ignore, was asking for evidence of what was being said. It asked to point out, where they said ANYTHING like they were being accused of.
But thats ok, we'll miss that one, only to pick up on the next one and start again with the accusations.
So forgive me, after everyones examples, I thought this WAS the place to become sanctimonious. Pardon me, seems it only applies to a select few.
If any of you do wish to go back and prove where ANYTHING like you are all accusing a poster of saying, IS actually said, feel free. I somehow doubt it, considering non of it was ever said.0 -
You will cashing in your child benefit quick enough when you son gets to the stage of needing school uniform and shoes, then you will more than likely have after school clubs to pay for or hobbies such as swimming, football, scouts, rugby etc, then you have school trips and donations, raffle tickets and sponsored skip etc.
It's not my money, it's my sons so it will go untouched. Like i said before it's an investment for him, and by the time he is 18, it should be worth well in excess of £30k through interest and inflation changes.
It's such a small amount of money to me every 4wks that even if i was down a little one month, i would budget elsewhere so as not to touch it. I am well aware that my son will cost more in the future, but i simply do not need or rely on his child benefit.
Trust me, not 1 penny of it will be getting spent. I'd rather give up my £75pm mobile phone than to touch his £75 CB moneyLoopy_Girl wrote: »See now that comment would have more clout if he wasn't actually claiming the 'handout'..
And I agree he probably won't struggle. Only because he will be getting the cheap as chips £4 uniform (or whatever it will be then) that you can shoot peas through and when it is washed the seams will never quite match up...lovely
My little boy will be going into private schooling so i doubt he will get away with a £4 uniform:rolleyes: Really is that what this thread has come down too
Why should i not claim the child benefit? Like i said before, i paid just over £12k last year in taxation. It makes me a little happier to think that not all of this £12k was wasted and that i got £978 of it back through CB.
Do not even try and catagorise CB the same as all the other benefits, like has been said, the Beckhams will no doubt be claiming CB for their 3 aswell.

No one forces ANYONE to claim CB. The DWP fairy doesn't put it in your account once you have popped that bundle of joy out.
It's seems to be okay to claim benefits cos you are entitled by having children and being old but you get hounded on here for claiming them because you need them. It ludicrous and it's hypocritical from some people and it makes my blood boil sometimes.
Personally, i dont see CB as a benefit, just as a tax rebate.
Cue my £12000 donation, £978 rebate.
To compare it to unemployment and low income benefit is absoloute ludicrous:rolleyes:
If you pay substantially more into the pot than you take out of it, as in my case over 12x more then its hypocritical for you to say i fall into the same catagory as someone claiming for £25k per year without putting a single penny in.
That is why the benefit brigade get a bashing, as they take take take. Understandable if you are an OAP, disabled or genuinally sick or even on IS due to being a lone parent, but any other excuse then that is why they are ''benefit bashed''0 -
Every child born on or after September 1 2002 has (or should have, if the parents bothered to invest it!) a trust fund. Parents can then choose to add to it (up to £1200 a year) or leave it as is.moggylover wrote: »How in Gods name do you think most of us could afford a "trust fund"? Nope, I never feel 'picked on' in here as I have my say like everyone else. If someone doesn't agree with me, fair play. I don't need someone to wade in and help me as I feel backed into a corner.
You and your nasty comments were the exact reason that I only read and not participate in the DT anymore. Looks like you have came over here just to stir it up Graham as I have never seen you post any useful or helpful info to benefit claimaints on this board. But then you join a little clique here who don't claim any benefits (or think they don't as they are 'tax rebates' or 'entitlements'), have disdain for people that do but still like to roam the board and snigger at the people who do claim benefits to help them.
If people have the same thoughts as me and want to post that then that's up to them.0
