It is not hypocritical to claim a pension that you have been paying into for many years. Would you say I am hypocritical because I accept my occupational pension? Successive Governments make the promise that if you work and pay NI contributions for X number of years then you will receive a certain sum of money as a retirement pension. I fulfilled my side of the bargain, they kept their promise. I don't actually 'need' my pension to live on but it pays for the odd cruise or two. Would you suggest as I don't 'need' the money that I shouldn't have it?

Nope - so long as you do not begrudge others the benefits that they may need:D . If you do, without knowing any of their circumstances or WHY they may need it (i.e. just condemn them as another one of those useless s*** on benefits) then perhaps your hypocrisy will choke you whilst next cruising:D"there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -

What an absolute charmer you are. And obviously an envious one.0 -

I pay taxes too so there is every chance that my tax money is paying Mitchaa's small person's CB? Am I bitter and whining on about it? err no, that's just the way it is
Just counted back - and breathed a sigh of relief - this post cannot be aimed at me - cos they had just phased out canaries when I was a girl

I pay my stamp just now but when I am old there is not going to be a State Pension, do you know where that money goes? To the pension receivers of now. Just like when you paid your stamp it went to the old folk back then. So I pay 10% of my salary into my Occ Scheme and also my NI stamp to pay for your cruises. So yes, if you don't need the money then don't claim it and maybe these poor old souls that complain about 'heat or eat' can have a larger pension.
Like Mitchaa it amuses me why you roam this board as well since you have no experience of using the benefits system and just use it as a tool to preach how good your life is. We didn't have much money when I was little and I never came out my childhood feeling inferior.0 -

Why thank you:D , others have been kind enough to say that before:o .And obviously an envious one.
Never envious though - not part of my make-up - have a kind heart and a loving family and enough to live on. I feel no envy for you - just pity that you find it so hard to have compassion for those with less (and by the sound of it) a lot less than you.
Not so nice to be on the receiving end of criticism is it? Don't dish it if you can't take it:D ."there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -

When I started secondary school the thing I can remember we needed were:
Blazer
Hockey Boots
Special colourued gym slip/gym briefs/logod top
Apron for woodwork
Greenflash pumps
Shirts
Skirts
Shoes
Bag
Stationary
It cost a packet then, some schools you can only get from certain shops and I think a Blazer was 40 quid in the nineties, then there was the logo and the coloured bands we had to wear around the cuffs..
It was a large amount of money all at once.. and as you grew, you needed more.. plus School trips and cooking ingredients.
I can't imagine what it costs now.. and I have three all very close in age to get kitted out when they start secondary School :cool:0 -

You know - I really would not have minded if she had not quoted part of my post so that it was out of context! I mean, I don't begrudge anyone what they have worked for - I just don't like them being so vile about others."there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -

So where was I vile about anyone? Please point it out.
EDIT: Haven't you found anything yet?0 -

Start saving now Dippy! The only thing that has changed is that the quality is poor compared to the uniforms when I was a kid. We had to get ours from Caleys in Windsor - but at least the stuff was well made (so unfortunately those from the less affluent backgrounds ended up with them "turned up":o to start with and the lines never came out when they were let down:o ).
Have looked at the uniforms for all three of the schools around here (son is on an out of school rugby team which comprises kids from all of them) and the quality is VERY poor for the price - better quality stuff from Tesco and Asda at a fraction of the price:mad: ."there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0
