    MrsE!!!

On way home tonight from a long day down in the mines, I saw TWO Fiat thingys, 08 reg, both in a vague cream colour, one had (chav) stripes over the roof.

Please keep your daughter locked up until we know it is safe for her to go out. Can't have her going for these Fiat thingys.

Just thought I'd throw in my opinion on wee cars as I have only ever had wee cars and would never get anything larger.

    1. If this hasn't been said already then do not go for the Matiz, I had one as a hire car (last resort as no others available) and it was the worst thing I have ever driven ever!!! It only had a 1 litre engine or there about but it drank petrol like it was going out of fashion and was so horrible for long journies.

    2. I would recommend the C1/Aygo/107. Which of them depends on whether or not your daughter wants to spend as little as possible as they are 92% the same as each other and it is the styling that makes them different. The C1 is the most basic of the 3 and hence the cheapest for the bog standard version (google will bring up the options etc for the edtions). I think the Peugeot is meant to be rated as the best for finishing of the 3 but that may have been a car-type website person's opinion.

I don't know much about the price of the Aygo but I have looked before and was surprised at how much it came in at. The Aygo has a different insurance band to the other 2 for whatever reason, the C1 and 107 are band 1E (the lowest) but the Aygo is one band higher so I think it is just band 1, who knows why?

I have the 107 and can vouch for that particular car. Mainly got the Peugeot as I have only ever had Pugs (two 106's prior to the 107) but I am so happy with my car.
First one I got was the first release Urban Move which came out last summer and has A/C and metallic paint and rev counter in price and works out cheaper than adding them as options. List price was 8k but took quote off Drive the deal into dealer and they matched the price of £6600 (you'll get a more basic one cheaper though). Decided to change it this year as planning to have a sprog next year but didn't change it for a different car, I changed it for another Urban Move but with 5 doors!
Like has been mentioned, low tax, getting lower and insurance sub £200. Fuel consumption, on full tank (35 litres) I can get just over 450 miles (too scared to push it too far just in case I completely run out and get stuck!).

We drive to Scotland from the Midlands regulary and also down to Kent (both sets of parents) and is very good for these journies. Very nippy engine as car so small and can squeeze through little gaps in traffic and into smaller spaces. Boot also small which may be a compromise but I plan to fit a baby and related stuff into mine (the car overall, not just the boot ;) ) and at the moment we get a weeks shopping in no bother.

In fact my neighbour liked our car so much that she has now got one too.

I love the way it looks and my husband isn't embarrassed to drive it at all. I see loads of them about now (with mostly young women driving it has to be said) and I saw it was the best selling supermini last year so that's maybe why :D

I'd never get rid of mine, ever I love my bug car.

I would still vote the Aygo.

But would still encourage MrsE's daughter to buy something bigger. If she is anything like her mother, she will need a huge boot just for make up alone....

    No dear..............

    For the shopping:D
  • well my first car was bought brand new when i was an 18year old new driver. it was a 106 bought in 1997. it didnt break down, lasted well and got me through uni before i had to start replacing the starter motor every couple of years come winter. it was stolen in 2004 and as i didnt have money for anything decent i got a 1997 ford fiesta.

i have said fiesta still, it cost me 1400 to buy it and since then i have spent obout 3000 on fixing things that broke or getting it through mot.

i loved my 106, i hate the fiesta and will be looking to replace it before next mot. i cannot afford to be spending a minimum of 500 quid a year on fixing it.

mrse has your daughter looked at diahatsu sirions? they hold there value well, are ifty little 5 door cars and the dealer claims they are the toyota yaris without the rice tag. i looked at one and a proton summat and the sirion looked much better, the proton was very plasticy looking. they come with air con and various things as standard and a 5 year warranty. of course dealer wanted me to cnsider the se rather than the basic, but the only extra it had i would be remotely interested in was parking sensors lol start at around 7 grand brand new though i sure cheaper on the web. i havent really started looking properly yet.

and thank you for your list, i shall find it most useful for myself come start of next year :D

I cant see anything beating the fiat panda in the small car category considering price.

You can get a FIAT PANDA 1.2 Dynamic 5dr brand new for £4995 (~£4895 if the VAT cut kicks in)

alternatively the new model FIAT PANDA 1.1 Active ECO 5dr which gets more MPG and only £35tax but £5200 perhaps less with VAT going to 15%

FIAT PANDA 1.2 Dynamic ECO 5dr which gets more mph and again only £35tax but £5450

    Hi,

I am a 30 year old female & i got my first brand new car in March 2008 - a bright yellow 1.1 active Fiat Panda for £5,500. It was Car of the Year in 2004.

I love my Panda! It has a great driving position with 'upright' seats (very different to the Citroen xsara I was driving before) & the 4 doors come in useful - I found many cars in the same price/size bracket only had the 2 doors. The boot is a good size & it feels bigger than it is because it is 'taller' than a normal car. I can get 45-50 miles a gallon out of it commuting (13 miles each way - with 3-4 miles of slow moving traffic) & have achieved 60+ on a run.

The daft thing was when we were looking, there were 18 month old cars for as much as £4750. When i have been back for the service, the garage is selling the second hand ones for £3995 2 & 3 years old so i don't think that is too bad as far as depreciation goes. It is easy to park on the street & in car parks. I pay £180 fully comp insurance for a year.

There are some very good deals around now so definately give the Panda a go.

Well test is in late March 2009, so are going to start seriously test driving, Argo seems to be the fav & I don't think Ka's are so cheap now, as the new shape has been launched & they are more expensive than they were.

Not French, not Fiat - and NOT too small. Your daughter is going to be in that vehicle, so make sure she has some decent bodywork around her - so definitely not Citroen - as you can get a paper cut off of them.

I'd say Fiesta if I had my choice and it was my daughter - although if I had the money, I'd get her a Focus or similar sized car.
