Price protection 17 is still available, Ive just changed from online saver 5, got through to them and they cant do a price comparison to see how much my bills have gone up by. But she said I can change back any time I want if the prices dont go up, its very confusing.0

Has anyone managed to phone EON and get their cashback credited that way (since there is no way of doing it online through the cashbacksites)?0
-
Eon Protection 17 has no fees if you want to change back. Energy 4 charges £5 if you leave it but you get a monitor free. I chose Protection 17 and am buying a cheap energy monitor (as the price per Kwhs is the same in bith tarriffs0

I just managed to switch to the protection 17 tariff over the phone so it is still there but the phone lines are stacked up and the website is melting.
The only difference with the energy saver versions are the free energy monitor. It just hangs round your main cable into the house and tells you what current is being drawn through it. If you come off the tarrif before it ends you have to pay for the thing - no option to post it back. They were talking £30 so I wouldn't bother. You could just read your meter each day to get the same result!0 -
Just need a bit of advice. I'm currently on the 'Energy Online Extra Saver 5'. I've just checked online and the current charges are:
Electricity
Normal units
10.4265 pence per kWh
Standing Charge
19.1625 pence per Day
Gas
Normal units
2.9127 pence per kWh
Standing Charge
12.1695 pence per Day
Looking at the 'Price Protection 17' which a lot of people seem to be switching to, it shows:
Electricity
Normal units up to 900 kWhs
20.1075 pence
Normal units
11.5185 pence per kWh
Gas
Normal units up to 2680 kWhs
5.31405 pence
Normal units
3.3873 pence per kWh
Can anyone explain what 'Standing Charge' means? I'm trying to work out if it makes sense for me to switch. From reading other posts, this is a tough call to make and it could go either way....0 -
A standing charge is simply a fixed price you pay per day regardless of how much electricity/gas you use, which is added to the cost of the fuel that you do actually use. Some tariffs have them, some don't.0

I'm an existing customer with E-ON and after reading in todays newspaper about the impending rise in gas prices I've switched to the capped tarrif from the 'energy online' one. I really hope I've done the best thing as I don't understand too much about the whole thing. I pay around £88 per month for combined gas and elec but hopefully this capped 17 thingy won't be too much more expensive. And I really hope it's worth it capping it in the first place? Is this scaremongering perhaps? Gawd I'm confused!"...and in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make".0

You're not alone - I have made exactly the same move as you yesterday evening.
Basically by moving to the capped deal you have increased your gas by 16% and your electricity by 10%.
However, compare this with EDF who have just increased Gas by 22% / Electricity by 17%, and British Gas who have increased Gas by 35% and Electricity by 9%.
EON will almost certainly increase by similar amounts next week. By capping you should be saving somewhat compared with the price you would be paying after next week if you did nothing. And if prices rise again early next year as predicted then you will be saving yet more.
Finally, if you went for the Price Protection 17 tariff, and by some miracle the price rises are less than the other companies have imposed, you can always swap back to the Online deal whenever you want without penalty.0 -
I am currently using the energy online saver 5 with EON and my monthly combined payment is £69.00.
I did some working out and also usng the comparison sites i will pay an extra 230 - 270 a year by switching to one of the fixed price deals so i am staying with the package i am on, if it does go higher then fair enough but as others have said either way is a risk..0 -
I am on the Dual Fuel Saver 5 tariff, as I receive 20% discount its going to be a little tricky to judge if its worth changing to the Price Protection 17 plan.
Like everyone else using E.on I am waiting to see what the price increase might be.0
