OK, I've bitten the bullet and switched, but I know that I owe some money to my current supplier. £80 odd for elec, because they got the bill massively wrong this quarter and charged me nearly double, and £12.50 for gas. i am not sure if I should pay these now, or later when I am asked to, can anyone advise? Not sure how the switching process works. But I think I have worked out that over the year switching to this capped rate will cost us about an extra £30 if rates stay the same and that is offset by £30 cashback from Moneysupermarket.com anyway. I think!!0

I would ring back and check, the lady asked which I had in mind and I told her, I then got her to confirm that it was def pp17 and that it was capped until 1 oct 09, which she did.0 -

I checked into PP V16 a couple of weeks ago and was told it would cost £175 more a year if prices didn't change, (well of course they will), but now PP V17 is even more per unit, so I think I will be happy to stay with Energy online V5.0

I had the same difficulty trying to work out (/guess!) what was best. In the end I decided that prices are definitely going up so went for the PP17 despite the initial increase in costs. I reckon by the end of next week at the latest we will know the full scale of rises across the board.
Unfortunately, one of us is going to be wrong
PP17 prices quoted online are:
ELEC
Night: 4.8825p/kWh
Day (up to 900kWhs): 25.431p/kWh
Day units: 10.8255p/kWh
GAS
Normal units up to 2680kWhs: 4.5696p
Normal units: 2.9127p/kWh0 -

I've just switched to PP17 at 11:55 today. I did check online (I have an account) to see what switches were available and the list I got presented with was:
1. Price Protection 17
2. Energy Saver 4
3. EnergyOnline Extra Saver 8
4. Go Green
5. E.ON Energy Plan
Of these, options 1 and 2 appear to have price protection or capping. I was not offered no. 2 on the phone and don't really understand the difference betweeen 1 and 2, however, the pence/kWh was the same for both. Note though that different products get discounts (e.g. there is no online discount of 11% for no. 1, but there is a 9% discount - not sure why but I'm not worried about it).
I didn't hear about PP2009 either online or on the phone.
It's all very confusing! Hope you get something sorted.0
