The capped rate is still available on Eon's website as of now (7.40pm), I've just managed to switch going direct and not through a price comparison site. The site is very slow and it took me 2 attempts but I managed it and I've just had the confirmation email :money:

Eon's capped rate is still available but if you look at their site they do say it will be for a limited time only (until they put their prices up)
I think I got lucky when I phoned them I rang at 3:15 this afternoon and wasn't waiting on the line more than 2 minutes.

You were certainly lucky! There were over 1000 calls waiting this morning! :T
  • Despite having already applied to switch to E.ON via the Money Supermarket website (at 18.00 today), I decided to also make a direct application several hours later (at 21.00 today) using the E.ON site. I couldn't get through on the phone, and the website was very, very, slow, but eventually I managed to submit my application and have it confirmed. Wahey!

So I've applied twice. I need to be absolutely sure that I will get the capped rate.

My problem was that I had presumed that an application via Money Supermarket's utilities comparison site would be just as direct as an application via E.ON's own site. That is, at the end of the application process I'd be told automatically that everything was approved/accepted and plans to switch would now be set in motion. What I got from Money Supermarket is a 'we've passed on your application to E.ON'.

This set me into a panic - I was too terrified that E.ON might withdraw the capped price plan before Money Supermarket pass my application on to them to process.

I called the Money Supermarket number and they weren't much help. When I asked what would happen if I also made another application, direct with E.ON, she (after talking with her supervisor) said that it wouldn't hurt to get in touch with E.ON direct, as they aren't likely to set up two accounts and bill me twice given that it's just one house. Seems messy to me, but I went with what she said, as I need the certainty ofthat price cap.

Now I hope that I haven't invited into my world a 'two accounts/two direct debits/one house' world of pain... Sigh.

Still - the good news is that E.ON, for now, are still offering the price cap.

    Sorry for rambling...
  • EON have NOT withdrawn their capped tarrifs - yet!

I switched, via the EON site (as I'm already a customer) at 2200 hours tonight (30 Jul).

Their website is painfully slow due, I suspect, to weight of traffic but if you persevere it will work.

I received a confirmation e-mail back within minutes confirming the switch and telling me I would get written details in a few days. 14 day 'cooling-off' period to follow receipt of letter.

I'm getting that error too, after waiting for about half an hour for the pages to load!

Price Protection 17 and Energy Saver 4 are the capped rates.

I went with Price Protection 17 - not fee to be released from that tariff should I change later.

Edit: for those struggling with the EON website, it took ages for each and every page to load for me too. Patience required - have a cup of coffee whilst you wait!
