-- Launch of Essentials Extra: no price increase for vulnerable customers
until April 2009, saving up to £214 per customer1, plus a home energy
audit and energy efficiency measures to help reduce energy consumption
and cut future bills in a sustainable way.

I come under this section, I am on essentials tarif with a PPM and currently pay the same as a direct debit customer on their standard tarif.

I have recently incresed my debt repayments to them as I wanted to go back to a credit meter before any price increases kicked in so I could cap - but looks as if I've run out of time. (Ten weeks until I'm in the clear with them).

    .

    Payment a day challenge: £236.69
    Jan Shopping Challenge: £202.09/£250
    Frugal Living Challenge: £534.64/15000

I have been trying to changed from Atlantic Electric & Gas (never honoured their month free promise anyway) to Eon, purely so I could sign up for a capped account. Managed to change my gas (smallest bill) but Atlantic wouldn't let me change my Electricity supply to Eon. Managed to sort this out yesterday and Eon are reapplying to take over the electricity supply but was told it wouldn't happen til next week. Was also told (when I said I needed to do this urgently cause was aware there was a strong possibility of capped tarrif increase by then) that he wasn't aware of any price increases happening within the next week. He did say he'd note down in my notes that I had asked to be changed over yesterday.

Of course, as I thought would happen, its not been even 24 hours and the prices have gone up (I think Eon is British Gas isn't it?). So goodness knows what I do now. Guess I'll be phoning up again tomorrow.

I also receive DLA for my son, so I haven't a clue how it works but will enquire about this essentials tarrif.., but assume its seperate to capping and so will probably save more money if I just go for a capped tarrif?

Eon is Eon. Don't think they're under British Gas

There are basically six big energy companies in the UK

    British Gas
    E.ON
    Scottish and Southern Energy
    Scottish Power
    npower
    EDF

All the rest are either subsidiaries of these six, or small independents.

larmy16 you have 14 days from date you agreed but normally about 7 days left by the time you receive correspondence/comfirmation. Did you sign up for Price Guarantee 2009 December?

So the kits /panels etc /home turbines are more expensive to purchase than paying bills ? Surely long term it will work out cheaper?

The turbines wear out before you've made your money back installing them.
