And I was of the impression that gas and oil prices are falling at the moment, Gas around -30% and oil -17%.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0

So the kits /panels etc /home turbines are more expensive to purchase than paying bills ? Surely long term it will work out cheaper?
Maybe one day it will but not now.
A 2 kW solar PV system for your house will cost about £12,000 - and at most shave 50% off your bill. That's probably about £300-400 a year at most. You're better off putting that £12,000 in the bank, at 5% it would earn £600 a year.
Home wind turbines are no better.
If you have money to invest, I'd spend it on making sure your house is well-insulated.Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

ebico gas rate is 2.86p/kwh wherever you live and their electric rate for s wales is 12.72p/kwh. One clear rate and no subterfuge. I think people have been sucked into capping.0

When will these price rises stop???????
back to the candels!

I don't think they'll ever stop now. Even if oil went down to $50 a barrel, and gas 10p, they wouldn't lower their prices. there's always the 'we need big money for investment' line of patter...........................I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Oh lucky me. I went on to Moneysupermarket.com to see if I could swap from EDF
to a cheaper provider and who should be recommended to save me money but British Gas!! Clicked yes and now it appears I am too late to cancel. EDF say I have 12 days to cancel, but the email from MSM says I have only seven - anyone know which is right??Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

You can give British Gas a ring untill 8pm tonight if you want to secure the Dec 2009 deal for capped price. That price is still only 9.8% higher than yesterday's price. Not the same as the 33% increase just announced.
I created a spreadsheet to compare the following
2008 prices
2009 cap prices
2011 cap prices
and Click Energy 5
I don't know how to upload excel sheet otherwise would have done
I just need to decide within next 30 mins if I go for Click Energy 5 (which is currently 12% cheaper than 2008 prices) or get the 2009 cap price.
Click Energy 5 could increase prices. Additionally, there is a £58 Gas and £20 Elec fee if you decide to leave the supplier (or possibly even tarriff) before Dec 2009.
Any suggestions??0 -
I'm on a fixed price until November, so perhaps by then prices will have tumbled down
More likely doubled

yesterday I registered as a vulnerable customer with BG as me daughter gets higher rate DLA it takes 6 weeks to come through so I was told
http://www.britishgas.co.uk/about-british-gas/what%27s-important-to-us/customer-commitment/essential.html
Hi Poppycat,
What does it actually 'mean' though? Discounts? Capped rates?
It would appear, from looking at the criteria, that we would be eligable for this, but it doesn't actually say anything on the BG website as to the actual advantages of it?
ThanksYou can't control everything in life....... your hair was put on your head to remind you of that
