*great big sigh*
We couldn't get the venue we wanted - they're already booked
Back to the list to see which of the other ones we liked are available. We can't budge on the date, as it is important to us...
Squiggly - I can think about warm snuggly blankets because my mind works in a strange way like that - we were sat at the front door on Sunday night watching the sky in case of a thunderstorm, and we were talking of furniture. Snuggling up on a cold night has always been a favourite thing of mine, and when OH mentioned that the idea was growing on him, I decided to try and find one asap, just so it could happen!
Just had an omelette for tea with some cooking bacon, onion and (a first for me!) real garlic instead of dried garlic granules. Why didn't I find it before???
(((hugs))) to anyone that needs one. I'm feeling a bit flat myself, but I'm still a little excited.Continually trying the Grocery Challenge. Gotta keep trying!0 -
Sorry, I'm normally a lurker but I can't help posting a reply to Essexgirl's "rant"
I would say that your children will grow up to be well balanced, thoughtful, settled, unspoilt children who know the value of money and what it means to budget & save their way through life. It is hard to stand back & watch as other family members get more attention than most - what you have to remember is that you & yours are more self-reliant than them, even though it is not pleasant to see children being favoured over others. Maybe time for a quiet word in Grandad's ear about children seeing things that maybe adults miss, like him spending more time with his other grandkids....? I guess that some family members may resent you because you have a good relationship & decent income, thus demanding more time & assistance in compensation
Sorry, will go back to my thundery lightningy corner now......
floss, you sound lovely! Please stop lurking and come out to chat with the rest of us.
mrs_mix, I'm glad the dog is recovering well. xx
Update on my day....the vacuum is still broken so I'm going to pour a glass of wine and sit in the garden to avoid any uninvited visitors. The thought of them is making my skin crawl. I wish I had something cheerful to say but I just feel completely miserable. Catch up with you all tomorrow.

Essex-Girl, hope you feel a bit calmer now but I don't blame you for ranting...
Catowen, thank you for the recipe!! So easy too, will definitely give that a go
PenPin, welcome home again, make sure you do rest...
Frugalswan, sorry you didn't get 1st choice venue, I'm sure somewhere even nicer will appear... Last week I thought it felt quite autumnal one morning & I could have thought about fluffy blankets then - but at the moment I am just melting..
Just had screaming match with youngest DD (nearly 12) - am fed up of her babyish behaviour, glaring, tantrums, and bursting into tears every 2 seconds. Then she dropped/threw half her dinner all over the brand new carpet too.

It could be worse Pink, you could have found that your DD had nits as well as all the other problems
(vomiting smiley)
Sorry Frugal, I'm sure you will find somewhere.

Evening all - long time no see
Well we had my mum's funeral today which went well. Although, obviously, I shed quite a few tears today, I am still feeling calm and relieved, really, that she is now at peace. Am slowly dealing with all her bills and paperwork etc and am getting there.
Looking forward to becoming a regular on here again and chatting about our day to day routines and lives. This is my third week off from work but will go back to work on Thursday and it will, I think, be comforting to get back into a routine again.
Hugs to all0 -

Aw hun, glad today went well for you, although I am sure it was hard for you, hugs xx0 -
Chrisca (((hugs))) to you on such a bittersweet, emotionally-draining day. It will be nice to see you posting again.
frugalswan sorry you didn't get your first choice but just look at it from the viewpoint that it wasn't meant to be. There is somewhere out there that will be perfect for you.
Pen-Pin (((hugs))) to you. You're being put through the mill quite a bit at the moment.
Squiggly as the mother of a 12yo, I understand what you mean perfectly. DD and I didn't manage the hairdresser appointments we had on Saturday because our flight was delayed. So she nagged and nagged and nagged til I eventually gave in and chopped her hair with kitchen scissors today. She was absolutely delighted until her very thick, heavy, curly hair dried. Then the huff started. She now looks like Crystal Tipps (anyone remember her???).She is with her dad for the rest of the week so I will have to try and book an appointment for next week so that she can get it thinned out and cut into a flattering style. I managed to find a way of wearing it that reduces the Crystal-ness but I think she has learned her lesson.
Pink Glad you enjoyed your holiday but sorry to hear your woes on your return. Kids, huh?Squiggly and I might start a club for mothers of DDs. Wanna join?
floss welcome and please keep posting.
Well, DS, DD and I went to the cinema twice today. We saw Wall-E first, which I thought was quite sweet and made me laugh now and then. Then we saw Mamma Mia! which was great! I was uncontrollable at Colin Firth in spandex though :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: (sorry, Shez - the man is gorgeous but he just cannot sing, dance or carry off spandex!) Definitely the hit film of the summer.
I'm enjoying having some quiet "me" time now that DS and DD are with their dad. Does that make me a bad mother? I think I may watch some Pride and Prejudice or some Bridget Jones. Just can't decide which one. Decisions, decisions. Enjoy your evening everyone. xx"Bad planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part."

(((((((((chrisca))))))) I'm glad it went as well as it could, the most draining part is over & like you say, you can begin to get back into some sort of everyday routine, which is what helps you.
Whatatwit - hormones should be banned, lol!!!
AnnieBL - I remember Crystal Tips & Alistair!!! (am I showing my age...). My oldest 2 DD's (16 & nearly 15) were never quite as bad as youngest though, one second she's fine the next she's flipped. I don't usually get into a yelling match but she was really horrible earlier. I even told her to pack her bags to live with her father....If she thinks I'm bad, then it would be interesting to see how she gets on with the she-devil (father's wife) who is a nasty piece of work & has put my girls through hell... Think she will be told he can't have her live there anyway as no space & any other excuse he can think of anyhow....
