Check lidl's, farmfoods, Iceland, you can get 3 Kingsmill loafs for £1.50. put bread and butter on the table.
Tesco's own cheap brown loaf got good reviews here.
Asda do 24 rolls for £1.
Lidl's do Chicago town large Pizza's @ £1 each every now and then, add a Pack of 2 garlic bread @ £1 from Tesco's or Sainsburys.
We told the kids it was a weekly treat so we sit in the lounge to eat them.
Lidl's do 500g packs of utterly butterly for 57p now and then so keep an eye out for them.
Tesco do a 7.5 kilo bag of Spuds for £3.71 / = 51p a kilo much cheaper than the washed ones and cut your own chips. mash. boiled, fried, roast.
four tins of bean's for £1 in Lidl's this week
We went through a tough time a few years back, but now we are a little better off, but we still shop around for a bargin. we look back now and realise how much money we wasted in the paste on food and treats that went in the bin.

Best advice i can offer is if you have room for a freezer or another freezer then get one, have a look on freecycle, so you can freeze anything on offer, if its empty or has space fill it with lunch boxes to reduce running costs.
Tell your children things are tight at the moment, we are always honest with our children its better than having to say no and it will set them up in the future.
if you spend under your limit save it up for upcoming offers.

  • I'm definitely seconding the meal planning idea. Sticking to it helps, and you find that if you stick to what is on the list, you don't spend as much overall. That reminds me I need to do mine.

  • MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. • write a list before hand and stick to it, im going back to £40 a week i have slipped somewhat the last 8 months (and gone up nearly 2 dress sizes) shop around, i used to use my slow cooker a lot, stretch the food you buy
i will be using lidl a lot again not only can it be cheaper its a walk (as i refuse to use the bus) so i can hopefully lose some of what i have gained

when i used here for meal plans and the grocery challenge plus input of other posters and threads i stuck better to my budget than when i have not been online

Thanks everyone. I will look at the links offered too. I did not know you can subscribe to newsletters from budget supermarkets.

    Cheers.

  • I've started feeding my family of 3 for £30 per week, by home cooking, and using mysupermarket.com to make my shopping list and STICKING to it. I print off the shopping list and take it to Asda, so I know how much it will cost.
The benefits have been a lot less food waste, a huge decrease in the amount of waste packaging, and generally healthier eating and I'm making savings towards getting a new kitchen.
I've cut down from about £150 per week and we are not going hungry at all, enjoying baking with my son.

It can be done, good luck!
