Ooop, forgot to add what I was aiming for this month.
£150 as I want to be able to buy DH his 5.1 cinema system for christmasOrganised people are just too lazy to look for things
F U Fund currently at £2500 -
Last month was £280 - which turned out to be a bit unrealistic. I had based that on the previous months reciepts, but I must have mislaid one - I spent £335 which is about an extra weeks shopping worth. But then again, I had £40 in actual PIN money, (not onto virtual yet as it confuses me!) So I've gone wrong somewhere??????????
As its a 5 week month for me - starting from Saturday 29th Oct to Sat 3rd December (wierd, but!!) My budget is going to be £400 this month.
To manage 2 Adults, 4 kids (1 in nappies) and a big Dog.0 -
Well, I've just moved out of home and into my boyfriends house..... 1st time away from home. Having followed and watched everyone else succeed I thought I should have a go.
We have sat down and worked out a budget together and I'm going to aim for £20/week, for two of us.
Is that right and how realistic am I being?October make £10/day currently £11.020 -
Hmmmmmmmmm, upon reflection I htink I am being a tad ambitious so will change from £380 to £400.

The october challenge didnt go to well I overspent by £50,my budget was £200.00 for 4 adults(2 teenage boys counted as adults)3 dogs and 1 cat. I had to go into hospital for 3 days and this seemed to mess things up.My target for november is £300 I am allowing a bit more because it is a longer month.0

That's a tough one, I reckon, so don't be too upset if you over do it. As much as anything it depends on the foods you like to eat and so on.
If you've only just moved in together you've got no real idea of what you might be spending so certainly keep all your receipts and track what you are spending. That way - even if you don't make your budget the first time you will know where your money has gone and can adjust things towards your target for the next one.

I agree with Squeaky untill you get in to routine and have cupboards full of basics like flour, herbs etc you will find that you will spend a little bit more.
I budget £100 for two adults a month no matter how many weeks in the month and we manage. But when we moved at the end of March we had run stocks down of everything. Flour, herbs etc as it was less to pack and carry and we ended up spending £125 for that month.
Also make a list of all the sorts of meals you like this will help you in your budget. As you know what you are buying.
Any Questions PM me.

Personally I think that your budget is a bit tight for someone who's just starting out. It'll take you a few weeks of shopping before you really get into the hang of spotting the best bargains/working out what you'll be cooking etc. I'd be tempted to budget around £20 per week each (i.e £40 per week total) if you can afford it and then gradually reduce it to £20 per week total if you want to be extremely economical.0 -
hi,
i'd like to try the grocery challenge this month but i'm a bit confused about pin and virtual pin and was wondering if someone could clear that up for me please?
we've got 2 adults and a 4 year old with a hollow leg but we have to be quite strict with money right now so i'm setting my budget for £25 per week starting from now. i'm just doing it weekly because if i don't start now i won't do it at all!
i'll have to get DH to save his receipts for me, should be interesting as he's practically living at his dept (university) right now as he's got a shedload of deadlines coming right now. i keep begging him to come home and get homemade food but i think he's being lazy and buying things when he thinks i won't notice (but i know what his card number is and i can check online when he's taking money out of the bank  ) we'll see if i can get him to stick to it as well!founder of Frugal Genius UK (Yahoo Groups)0 -
oh, just so you know, i've got a house full of food and spices to start with...and i'm very good with money when i put my mind to it (now i just have to stand firm!) i've done £10/week for all 3 off us before and that included buying baby wipes so i think i can manage on £25/wkfounder of Frugal Genius UK (Yahoo Groups)0
