Yep, I'm single (for grocery purposes, lol). I cook for one unless dbf is over (and he usually arrives late so dinner is mostly just for me). It's definitely a challenge cooking for one and making sure it's interesting/healthy etc. Defo happy to buddy up!! I need the support as well:rolleyes:

"For ways to cut down on waste at home check out this site: www.myzerowaste.com - lots of ideas on there" - have bookmarked this greent - thanks.

    Disasters - Not Quite

    1. Tried to make yoghurt in thermos flask last week. Didn't set, so poured half into old pop sock, hung sock from kitchen cabinet handle to drip into a bowl. Result - yummy soft cheese. Mixed it with some sugar and vanilla extract and had it with strawberries. Did the same with the other half today (had kept it in the fridge). Added some fresh herbs and garlic paste to quarter of it and had that in a sandwich with beetroot. Will try adding powdered milk to next batch of hm yog, but will also make the soft cheese again.

    2. Cooked dinner last night and planned carrots, green beans and broccoli as veg. Ate dinner, discovered broccoli still in pan! Soooooo, tonight I made bubble and squeak - mashed potato with marg and milk added, gently fried onion with sliced garlic and added broccoli to this with some black pepper and celery salt, added the potato to the broccoli and returned everything to the fry pan (melted a little extra marg in the pan first), then put it under a hot grill whilst I fried a couple of eggs. Yum Yum Yum.

Can someone please tell me how to quote from someone else's message. I tried clicking on the Quote message in reply? box but nothing happened. Thanks. Gill.

Did some shopping today as I was near Somerfields, the popped out to Asda/Aldi as well and glad I did :D

Somerfield : £3.96 (including whoopsies mini croissants, pitta breads & bagels - all freezer bound!)
Asda : £8.48 (including whoopsied jus-so ready-rolled shortcrust pastry - supposed to be £1.53, cost to me 39p :D. Also bought some chicken livers to have a go at making our own pate ;) ) but this includes fruit & milk which will last into next week ;) Spent £2 in addition to this on a washing up bowl
Aldi : £5.11 (5kg of potatoes, pie for tea as a treat ;) ) Also managed to bag myself 2 travel mugs for £1.99 which I can use to keep my morning coffee warm:D

    Total spends today: £17.55
Weeks total: £24.41 / £20 (but that does include stuff that will roll over so not too worried ;) )

New week starts on Friday and I have no intention of spending any money tomorrow :D:rotfl::rotfl:

Me too. Cooking for one can be quite a task but I have a slow cooker and a freezer which means lots of batch cooking then divying up into individual portion sizes. The trick is to plan ahead. Oh, and to enjoy it too!
It's up to me now and nobody else.
  • Hi Everyone!!
Bit dull here today. Will have to pick up some milk later.
Have a good day and I'll be back later.

    Morning fellow moneysavers :hello:

another NSD yesterday - third in a row - will be four in a row if today is NSD as planned (fifth NSD of the month). For me it definitely helps if I avoid the shops completely - no temptation to spend even if I see a bargain! Will aim to do more menu planning today and get some artisan bread underway as need to get back into the swing of things after being on holiday. Also need to get yoghurt machine on and do some baking - so much to do - so little time!

    Have a great day

Morning all - off to Sainsbury's as I've run out of milk. Was going to take MIL but she is poorly this morning so I have a list of stuff to get for her. Apart from the milk I don't think we need anything else. Dinner tonight is going to be chicken fricasee with rice, which will use up the last of Tuesday's chicken and some mushrooms and half an onion that are lurking at the bottom of the fridge - oh and the last of the fromage frais will go in the sauce too.

Anyone have any thoughts on whether I can freeze whipping cream and if it should be whipped first? Otherwise I am going to have to throw it out before we go away which would grieve me!

Will catch up with you all later. Hope it sunny where you are - it is raining here!

    Love Moniker

According to waitrose, whipping cream can be frozen for up to 2 months providing it has been lightly whipped first:D
