Save Paper - Cancel your phone directories

Official MoneySavingExpert.com insert

With many people using free online or phone based directory enquiries to find the phone number of a local business, the paper versions of the BT Phone Book and Yellow Pages can often sit unused, and it's a big waste of paper. To prevent this, if you don't use the yearly-issued directories, it's dead simple to get taken off the mailing list.

What you need to do

For the BT phonebook call 0800 833400 and for the Yellow Pages simply call 0800 671 444, give your house number and postcode, and you shouldn't receive the next copy. You can also call the same numbers if you ever want to be added back onto the list.

Thanks to MoneySavers Altarf, other MoneySavers on the site and Stephen for contacting us with this top tip. Back to the original post...

If like me you never use the phone books, it is an awful waste of paper and energy printing and distributing it.

BT and Yellow pages hide the fact that you can stop receiving them, but you can. If you call 0800 671 444 for Yellow Pages or 0800 833400 (option 5) for BT.

Thank you. :j I always have to make a special trip to the local recycling centre to get rid of these (not very environmentally friendly when I didn't need them in the first place).

Thanks for that info. I do use my yellow pages, though use yell.com a lot at work but I never use the normal directory just recycle when the next one comes round. Will call them today.
There is no issue so small that it can't be blown out of proportion
