Single and in debt.

Hello everyone
Sorry I haven't been around for a while. Moved into my pal's house this week - house & cat-sitting while she's away for a few weeks, AND have also had three nights out this week (get me!!)
What else? I was supposed to have the Dirty Texter round for dinner today, but he texted yesterday morning v sorry but he's got that nasty bug that's going around. Hopefully we'll be able to catch up in January. Shame really, because I was looking forward to it. I'd bought all the stuff for a roast chicken dinner, so have had two roast dinners on the run and have invited my pal around for another roast tomorrow!!
Also... I've been doing a bit of shopping - window only. My friend lives 5 mins walk from the town centre, so I popped in today, had a look around and bought... nothing. Tried on several v discounted things in Debenhams, but unfortunately my love for chocolate has led to a loathing of my body, so all clothes make me feel hideous.
So, all in all, I've had a funny old week. Got all excited about DT coming round for dinner today only to spend the day on my own reading the paper and listening to the radio. Just a normal Sunday really, but what with Xmas day being this week & all that... just feels like it'll be a bit lonely this year. Hey ho, at least the cats need me (for now anyway)!!
TDQO, are you back now??
Pinkie - I know it doesn't help now, but when the perfect job comes along you'll be thankful you didn't get this job. Also, I think you're doing the right thing by cutting out all toxic friends. You don't need them and you won't miss them. Life's too short to spend it with people who don't give you the respect you deserve. You're a strong gal.
Rosa - it's great fun having a crush isn't it, just the anticipation of seeing someone makes you feel all :happyhear Enjoy!!
And makeup... welcome! Hate to be all doomy, but I've had tarot readings on and off for 20 years and I always get told I'll be married with children within 3 years!! Never been married, never had kids :rotfl:
Right, I must concentrate on Corrie. As a southern-based northerner I have to keep my accent topped-up!!
Toodle pip for now £27k (excluding interest) paid off in 29 months

Aww SuSu, bad news re date, hopefully he will be able to make it up to you in January though and 2 roast dinners is fab, I love roast dinners:D
Have just been tidying the top of my wardrobe as I am determined to make the most of my 2 weeks off and make my room look spotlessly tidy. Now, this is only the top of my wardrobe, still have the bottom and hanging drawers at the side to do. So far I have found another 49:eek: unopened items of make up and toiletries. This is in addition to the 200 I found in my chest of drawers a few weeks ago. I don't think there are any more lurking around so I will declare my final total as 249:eek: I am like one of those people on Shopaholics. It's a bit alarming really, how did I let it get this bad
Also found (still in bags) 5 pairs of trousers, a really lovely per una blouse and a scarf, none of which I remember buying, also a Radley bag, three sets of hugely expensive underwear (I did know they were there, am saving them in case I ever have use for them:D ) and 2 books. Looks much tidier now anyway:o Also found 15 hangers which is lucky because I thought I would have to buy some more and I certainly need them:o
This is why I don't have a house.:o Anyway, 2009 will be different (I say this every year, but this year I really, really mean it:D ) on the toiletries front if nothing else:rolleyes: . I don't have space for all this stuff. It's ridiculous. So I am going to pare it down as much as I can, am actually looking forward to the 4k challenge next year, I love a bargain/ freebies and I am keen to see how much I can get for how little next year. I want to use up what I have and I might even join Lula's £100 clothes challenge:eek:I don't need clothes or toiletries at all next year to be truthful. I don't need anything. I want to be debt free and have a nice deposit saved up and I can only do this if I stop spending:rolleyes: . If I put my mind to it the only thing I would really need to spend on next year is food, bills, books (a necessity) and car costs. Can't see that happening though:rolleyes: But I don't want to be renting when I'm 40 so something will have to give.Pay/save £20k in 2010 £5888.75/£20,000June Mini target 0/5lbs Total 23/40Ebay profit 2010: March £207:) April £95:) May £130:) June £0 Total £432:j0 -
Well, Sarah, I think you're right that you don't need any clothes or toiletries next year LOL!! I think the £100 clothes challenge will be a test for you, but one that you'll pass with flying colours!! Are you going to eBay some of your clothes or keep them??
As for the toiletries... wow!! I'd managed to build up a collection of lovely toiletries (back in the day I thought I was MSE if I got a free gift set when I bought Clarins, Clinique, Estee Lauder, Lancome..... LOL!!) I have a nice complexion now because I honestly think it's as much to do with the routine than the product. But, I did love using up all those products!! And now my pals buy me lovely things for my birthday, so I still them, but just what I need and can use.
Anyway, I decided today after trying on beautiful clothes only to make them look hideous that I'm definitely back at the Gym asap. I paid for 12 months membership (£270) in June and only went for about 5 weeks before doing my neck in. But, as the treatment's working and my neck's getting better (despite cricking it on Friday morning, thus leaving me flat on my back like eagle eye action man for much of the day!) from January I'm going to go for at least 45 mins every day on the way home from work. It's not like I have anything to rush home for anyway!!
I also had another pound-saving idea - that's lbs not £s... In January, I want to give up chocolate until I'm completely debt free (which will be May or June). Now, this is a BIG undertaking, but I absolutely need to do it. I've always been about size 14-16 but this is the first time I've felt ashamed of my body and I want to change. Anyone want to join me? I could do with the support...£27k (excluding interest) paid off in 29 months

Hello all
Sarah - I'm so like you with the lotions and potions, I used to work as a make-up artist so have tons of stuff and half of it never gets used....... but I still can't resist a new purchase! I went to Body Shop on Sat with a £5 off voucher and ended up spending too much on only 3 things...their stuff is too expensive!
Pink - no new cocktails but this time of year love all the festive drinks..mulled wine, hot cider and of course - Snowballs - they are the BEST! And Christmas isn't Christmas without a Sherry! Especially whilst cooking!!!!
SuSu - I know what you mean about the tarot, I just love having it done though. I'm a bit of sucker for it but cynical enough not to take too seriously. However she did say that I should take my time to heal and get over my exes properly ...... so I'm thinking of going celibate for the first 6 mths of 09. It kind of feels like the right thing to do. Has anyone ever tried that ..... I don't really mean the lack of s e x thing - more planning to be single for 6 mths so no looking, flirting in bars, kind of being single intentionally????
Saying that, I was over at my ex's on Friday night, he rang me late and I was free so over I went....not very MSE as he lives on other side of London so had to pay tube / bus fares but he does have his heating on full and I try and put off having it on so saved a night of gas and had a night in a warm flat!!!!I've got my own flat :j:j
Now I have to pay the bills

I haven't posted for ages here sorry folks, am still single, still in debt, and Sarah next year WILL be DIFFERENT.
it has to be.
I am at the making lots of ridiculous plan stage so remind me to calm down!
two news years resolutions 1. learn to drive 2. get out of debt.
I have to figure out how I am going to manage driving and paying off the debt but I am sure it will work out some how.
what about yours xxxNevertheless she persisted.0 -

Can't ebay the clothes as I am not technical enough! I will keep them and make sure I use them. These are just the ones I've found so far by the way, I have a storage basket full of unopened clothes, plus lots more in the bottom of my wardrobe.I will make sure I wear them, it's going to be one of my New Year's resolutions, to use up what I already have. Am going to save, save, save next year!
Re the toiletries, what makes it worse is that they are expensive ones, and I totally understand what you mean about getting the free sets and justifying it as a bargain. I never paid full price for anything but I still spent a fair bit:o On the plus side, it does mean I will only be using lovely expensive things next year so I won't feel I'm depriving myself and I'm looking forward to freeing up all that space.Pay/save £20k in 2010 £5888.75/£20,000June Mini target 0/5lbs Total 23/40Ebay profit 2010: March £207:) April £95:) May £130:) June £0 Total £432:j0 -

Now SuSu, being debt free isn't that important:D We do have a very loosely run diet on this thread though, I assume some of us will be restarting it in the new year, I certainly am (again) so feel free to join in. We just count what we lose and ignore it if we gain, which is absolutely the best way to do these things.Pay/save £20k in 2010 £5888.75/£20,000June Mini target 0/5lbs Total 23/40Ebay profit 2010: March £207:) April £95:) May £130:) June £0 Total £432:j0 -
Susu, I gave up chocolate about 6 weeks ago when I started my diet and stopped missing it after the first few days.
Makeup, yes I've done the deliberate thing but it was after a horrendous relationship so maybe not so much of a choice as it could have been.
Buffy, if you put the driving on the back burner for a wee bit could you pay the debt off quicker then concentrate on that later? might be a daft idea - dunno?

Sarah - I don't know what your total debt is, but I reckon if you're not buying clothes or toiletries next year, you should be able to make a fair old dent in it! You probably have enough stuff to last at least 12 months, so when you are debt free, you can continue with your lovely toiletries in the knowledge that you can afford them. And you'll still look a million dollars even if your net worth is a hundred dollars!
Buffy - I don't usually make resolutions, but as per my earlier post I've decided I need to give up chocolate until I'm debt free. All things being equal I'll be debt free in May/June. I will also get back to the gym in January. I do actually enjoy going, but haven't been able to for ages, so I'm quite looking forward to it.
Great idea for you to learn how to drive. I cannot recommend it enough - it gives you such freedom!! You go girl!! :T£27k (excluding interest) paid off in 29 months

It certainly will be different this year, last year we didn't have this fabby group of people to provide support/ listen to rants.:D This is going to be our year Buffy:j
Carry on with the ridiculous plan making, I have my own ridiculous plan, this year I am going to make a list of 100 things I want to do in 2009, that way I am bound to get at least some of them done:D .
Definitely stick with the driving if you can Buffy, it will make such a difference to your life and increase your options. Even if it puts back your DFD it is worth doing.Pay/save £20k in 2010 £5888.75/£20,000June Mini target 0/5lbs Total 23/40Ebay profit 2010: March £207:) April £95:) May £130:) June £0 Total £432:j0
