Try it mashed with up to 50% cooked sweet potato. Delicious.0

I'm all for mashed swede on its own or with carrots. Its also really good mashed with potatoes and used to top shepherds pie or other casserols, its very good on game casseroles like venison or pheasant."doing the best you enjoy, not the best you can tolerate, is truly the best you can do sustainably."0

Another for mashing it with carrots, butter, salt and pepper
I like your microwave idea Trixie. I've been doing that lately to make mash but using it on swede did not oocur to me.
It's so soft and sweet it's just delicious!
Makes one heck of a sticky mess on the plate you bake it on though so be warned it'll need a good soaking!Trying very hard to be frugal and OS - just plodding on and doing my best!

Its also delicious roasted! just cube it, drizzle with oil, salt and pepper (add a bit of garlic too if you like) and roast for about 35 minutes in a hot oven. it also tastes great with other mixed roasted veg.0

Swede in stews/soup makes it go off quicker which is why things go sour quicker if swede is added, I read it in a book but I cant remember which book.0

You could try this http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/food_and_drink/recipes/article2027737.ece
I made it a few times last year when hubby kept bring swedes home ('they are so cheap!'). It might be a bit too 'different' for some people, all my lot ate it, though DD's boyfriend went absolutely mad for it and whenever he was over would ask hopefully 'are we having that soup again'!No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!0 -
just remembered - my grandkids love swede boiled and mashed with a little white pepper and a big chunk of butter! they call it golden mash! chefs call it pureed swede! if it tastes a bit strong add a cooked potato to it - it seems to take out that really strong taste!0

For the last couple of weeks, Mondays have been late nights at work so Sunday roast has been served with diced carrot & swede and either cabbage or sprouts. Excess amounts have been prepped on Sunday night so that Monday can be bubble&squeak night. Really quick to fry up and absolutely delish!0
