  • Sorry guys I expect this has been covered before.
I just want to know if I can get charges back under hardship rules.
My out goings are near enough equaling my incomings, me and my wife have credit card debt, a loan each and overdrafts, neither of us has a good credit rating so cant transfer credit cards, we have another baby on the way and desperately need a bigger car. I also work for the nhs on the staff bank which is basically a casual contract so i am not garunteed a certain amount of hours so not sure if this will go in my favour or against me.
    Grateful for any help.

Have you also reclaimed the credit card charges as well including the £12 ones?
Is their PPI on the Loan?

There seems to be two types of hardship.

    1. Those people who have lost their jobs, have had a relationship breakdown which has left them in a bad place financially etc, etc.
    2. People who cannot manage a budget while they have a reasonable income or have to have the next big thing on the never never and over extend themselves.

Anyone of us can land up in the same position as had enoughofhalifaxnow through no fault of our own and need help.

I'm sure Banks must have been swamped with cases they had to reject under the 2nd type of hardship.

Would they have dealt with those people who are in real financial harship quicker if they had not had to deal with all those other type of claims?

Would more people who are in genuine hardship have received a refund before the result this week if the people who cannot budget had not written in?

This has been one of the biggest barriers, in my experience, in getting people suffering extreme hardship help through the swathes of a little bit skint claimants.

Hopefully the ruling will make a difference on that score, as hardship (as has always been the case) is nothing to do with the test case and will now not be being seen and used as a way around the hardship exemption in the waiver and those people who arent actually in extreme hardship will back off a bit and sort their claims out alongside the rest of us.

  • Hi Everyone,
forgive me if anything like this has been covered already.
I am wondering if I can get my charges back under hardship rules.
I had a case on hold with HSBC, and 2 months ago I was diagnosed with cancer. As such I am undergoing treatment which makes me unable to work at the moment and I am on stat sick pay (about £80 per week). Whilst I am not trying to "play a sympathy card" with the bank, I am just finding extremely hard to manage on this kind of money.

Thanks to anyone who may be able to help!

Speak to the bank(it's not the sympathy card but it is a medical situation that could potentially be short term or long term) and furthermore complete and income and expenditure form, if you can cancel non essential Direct Debits then do so.
