Bankruptcy Credit Reference File Clean Up - Discussion

  • Well according to my Noddle file I have cleaned everything up. However, when checking Experian it shows other ones which I don't remember being in default last time I checked! :(

I've got an £8 default on my Northern Rock Mortgage account, a smallish amount (<£100) on a Halifax current account and some on a Clydesdale account. So letter writing starts again - though I may just phone Halifax Customer Services to sort the account one as she was so helpful before. Could I just pay the £8 to the Northern Rock as an alternative for that one or is that favouring one debtor over the others?

Also, some of my accounts marked satisfied show default under status - I assume this is correct?

    Many thanks

  • Now I'm really confused! Checking my Equifax summary and it shows Northern Rock as satisfied, Clydesdale still there and Halifax current account just marked as unchanged (for years) but with the same default/delinquent balance! :(

£8 default on a mortgage is odd in itself.

Satisfied/settled defaulted accounts are still technically with a status of default, so yes that could well be right. The different CRAs have slightly different ways of showing status in these cases, but the important thing is (a) original default is correct date and (b) there is also a mark/flag/status/whatever of some sort to show that the account is settled/satisfied.

  • Thanks Fermi, I've dug out some paperwork for the accounts in question and will see if I can get to the bottom of this later today.

As far as I can tell, from the paperwork I have, the Clydesdale account is now part of Barclay as the later paperwork came from there and I have a couple of phone numbers to try (from Equifax and the paperwork) as a starting point. Halifax should be relatively easy as I have the contact details for the person who dealt with the loan issue. As for Northern Rock, they now appear to be part of Virgin Money but I'm going to try the contact number I have any way.

  • Fermi:

I've contacted Official Receiver's Office regarding my case to get all the account numbers to be able to point Data Control Officers to the right place however... I was told that OR doesn't have them anymore as I was discharged back in 2010.

Where could I get those numbers now or
    do I really need them?

I've got a while to go before I can do my clean up but I was looking round to see if I could find a template letter for the initial request to former creditors to update my CF's (not the one #2 in the sticky which is the one that says 'despite several letters...')

I'm sure I've seen a Fermi assorted letters post somewhere but just cant seem to find it - any one point me to it? :)

That one is generally OK to use for the first request, as often people will have made less formal requests for a correction first.

Even if it is a first request, don't I have ever seen it queried or challenged by a lender.

If it really bothers you though, just change that small bit.

  • Good morning All

I am looking for some advice please

I was declared bankcrupt in 2007
So started to clean up my file in June of this year, next sorted and got a £15 gift card as they had got the incorrect date as satisfied.
However, Natwest is proving more difficult, have written to them twice, both by registered post and including my discharge letter.
On my noodle credit report it states that I was still in default in 2008 and then later in year it was satisfied.
Natwest was included in my bankcruptcy, they also repaid over £3,000 in charges after my bancruptcy, I was still over drawn so they used some of that money to clear the overdraft.
I then withdrew the rest and sent it to OR.

I am confused that the money it states I was in default was increasing each month as it was at zero when I withdrew the money, they have not written to me, so I raised it via my Noodle account, Noodle have just written to me stating Natwest have said to them they cannot amend the account and to contact Natwest directly !!

I have tried to contact them and they will not reply to the letters any advice please

    Thanks

  • Hi all,
I have a CCJ which was added after I declared bankcruptcy, it was 3 days after, and done by a creditor (a Factoring Co that was too inefficient to collect the money owed by an overseas client of mine and thought it easier to close my business) they were aware that I had been made bankrupt, they had already made several underhand moves previously which included sending legal docs to my old business address and getting a charging order on my property, at which point I went to the Queens Court and got it overturned.
This was back in 2009, and I have cleaned up my credit files and been very good financially, but I have a CCJ for £194k left on my file, I can understand having to pay to get one removed if it's settled/paid off etc after the court case, but do you really have to pay to have one removed that shouldn't be there in the first place?

By the way, to anyone considering bankruptcy, who is a homeowner, we still have our house, you don't always lose them. Wife, two kids, and not much equity in it meant that the official receiver was not interested in it.
Also some bank personal guarantees are not very well constructed! Take advice!
