  • to sarah, put your new address and tell them to update address at CRA's
remember when you apply for credit they want 6 years history so they will always know your last address, so yes they will see your pass history and it can also show up on what they call link address
MAKE sure you get on electoral registrar at your new address, hope this helps
  • I also have an noddle account, they seem to work slowly, just send in your discharge letter to each creditors, because lazy call credit will just write back a standard letter saying they are just custodial of the information, yeah pain in the b......

    :rotfl:

    Not at all Postie. :)

It depends on the timing of your BR and/or whether lenders correct things off their own back.

If all your defaults were before your BR or the lenders correct them themselves without you asking, then it can be clear after 6 years just leaving them be.

Unfortunately that doesn't apply to a large proportion of people's files, so some action on their part is required.

So it would appear HSBC have begun incorrectly reporting defaults to Experian as well now

It's over 28 days since my original letter, so i've emailed the links given by Fermi above, and also sent a second letter asking them to update ASAP.

It's really got my back up as it's almost as though they're doing it out of spite.

Also spoken to 2 of the CRAs and they're asking me to send a copy of my IVA certificate so they can look to do something from their end but it seems like a serious pain in the rear chasing all these people because of HSBCs mistakes.

I wouldn't be that fussed, but i'll be moving out in October and the last thing I want to have to do is explain to any letting agency that my credit references are all wrong :(
  • Hi,

    Hopefully someone can advise me?

I was declared bankrupt in May 2011 and discharged in May 2012.

Since then I have been contacting each creditor to have the defaults against me settled, all but one have now done this which is fine and the one left is only for £65 so I might just offer them £20 to go away, not sure yet.

I do have some CCJ's on there which were also included in the BR and I have been trying to get them marked as satisfied/settled or whatever it is to make them seem less negative on my file.

Two of the creditors have said they are still counting the debt as owing and just because I was declared bankrupt it doesn't mean I don't still owe them money??

My friend who has also been BR said he got rid of his CCJ's by sending a letter explaining about incorrect info on his file as they haven't updated the courts to say the debt is now gone?

is this correct? I need help?:(:(:(

    thanks for any advice
  • just thought i would post details of my success story, thanks to MSE/fermi/this thread - i know people usually post asking for help, or with tales of woe, so i thought it would be nice for those who are worried to know that not all cases go belly-up and sometimes the system does work :)

i checked my credit report a few weeks ago, and had 4 "red" items:

british gas - unsettled bill ~£75
egg credit card - unsettled balanced ~£2000
hsbc current account - unsettled overdraft ~£1000
hsbc savings account - unsettled loan ~£17000

all of these were as a result of declaring myself bankrupt in 2006, but all of them were showing incorrect dates (and, in the case of hsbc, were showing new "updated" dates each year, demonstrating that they were actively keeping the defaulted account "live")..

so, i followed the instructions on this site, printed off letters for all of the above and sent them to the relevant parties..

in less than a month, the following has happened:
    • british gas disappeared from my credit report altogether (i can only assume this is a good thing!), although i heard nothing from them.
    • egg card is now marked as Settled, showing the correct date of bankruptcy, although i heard nothing from them.
    • both HSBC accounts are now marked as Settled, showing the correct date of bankruptcy, and they sent me a grovelling letter apologising for not correctly updating my account sooner!

so all in all, i couldn't have asked for a better result.. bear in mind that this all happened within 4 weeks of me sending off letters for the first time - prior to this i had made no effort to contact any of my former creditors or tidy up my credit report in any way!

so, once again, thanks to fermi et al for all their help.. and for anyone else about to embark on this journey for the first time - follow the instructions closely, provide as much information as you can so your case is watertight, and there is hope! :D

Long time lurker, first time poster:). Just want to say firstly thanks to everyone who posts advice on this website, it's an invaluable source of information.

Having a lot of trouble getting my credit file cleaned up. First can I ask, do the templates in the stickied thread apply to Scotland? I am discharged from LILA bankruptcy if that matters.

Two companies are refusing to do anything, Link Financial and Natwest. Both ignored the initial letter I sent (not the template, just a request to update my credit file).

Natwest say they can't discuss closed accounts over the phone and wouldn't even confirm the address to write to at first. They gave me a Manchester address (as opposed to the London address in the sticky thread that I used before) - if the template letter is applicable to me in Scotland should I send it to both?

Link Financial are even worse, they say it is company policy to keep accounts marked defaulted until you pay them. They insisted that they can do this lawfully and confirmed that under no circumstances will they change my credit file unless I pay them.

Any advice would be appreciated, this is a very frustrating process.
  • Does anyone know who I contact about my EGG loan that was included in my Trust Deed.
I'm trying to fix my credit report and the loan is under a new name of Britannica Recoveries S.A.R.L. I cant find the address to write to them?
