Bankruptcy Credit Reference File Clean Up - Discussion

  • Hi

I've just passed my 6-year point with my TD, and checking my credit file on Noddle, I have an old Egg card that's a year out of date, showing my default in June 2009 instead of 2008. I know from researching online and the information showing on Noddle that Egg were bought over by Barclaycard, so it's them I need to contact about getting this sorted.

I have my paperwork somewhere, planning on looking it out in the morning and using the letter template and ICO link from this thread as a guide (won't let me post links as I'm a new user, but it's a thread on here dedicated to bankruptcy cleanup in England, number 677875 if that helps), obviously tweaking bits here and there to suit. Does anyone have any tips on what exactly I should change, or point me towards a TD-specific template? I have had a look online, but can't find a dedicated letter (or I'm too tired to see the search results properly!).

Also, I read on one of the earlier posts in this thread when flicking through about Barclaycard/Egg being a pain in the backside when trying to get the credit file updated, is this still the case?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

I have just checked my file and it would seem that Lloyds are the only ones not to have updated anything on there.

I have written the letter ready to send but I can't find any account number details. Does this matter? Is there any other information I should give them instead?

It also looks like they have defaulted me on 2 accounts for the exact same figure. I did have 2 accounts but there is no way that the debt on them both was as much as they are saying. I know one was at that figure, but the other was at least £4k less.

I would include a copy of the credit file entry and enough info so that they will be able to identify the account.

They will probably still try to make excused that they need the number, but if they are able to report the account then they also must have enough info on their systems to find it by other means.

  • Hi
I'm a bit confused as to the next step after my discharge which was on the 01st July. I've noticed that some of my creditors have been updating my file as being either Default or Late Payment after the date of my bankruptcy last year. I've also noticed that within the last few months the outstanding balance on some of my creditors has changed from zero to large amounts outstanding. It would appear that some of these debts have been sold on to debt collection agencies, and the dates tie in with when my files were put back into default. Does anybody know if this is correct? And also should I start writing to the creditors on my report now asking them to update these files?
I want to clean my file up so I can apply for a credit card such as Vanquis or Lumas so that I can start to slowly build up my credit status, and I'm not sure if I should apply now or wait for a short while.
    Many Thanks
    Paul

Hi I'm looking for some advice please. I went through bankruptcy in May 2008. I only very recently accessed my experian and equifax files. Both are showing the wrong default date for my Santander bank account (it had an overdraft). I've printed off the template letter to send to Santander to get them to update the credit reference agencies, but the other issue is my Equifax file is showing the date of the bankruptcy order but has no date for "Date satisfied" recorded. Do I need to write to equifax to get them to update their records and remove the bankruptcy from my file?

    Thanks.

I have been released from BR 3 years this September but recently discovered that my Credit File contains a Default rather than Settled entry from a debt which was included in my BR.

Can you send the letter to a lender without account number as I can't remember it or have a record? I do have the date the loan started and the old address from where I lived when the loan was agreed.

    Cheers

Write to the ones still updating with a balance telling them it must be marked in some way to show it is settled or satisfied instead.

As per the cleanup sticky letter.

The CRAs don't always display a satisfied/discharged date on a bankruptcy order.

With Experian you can send them proof of discharge and they will usually record that as an additional entry for you.

You can try asking Equifax if the will do the same.

The entry should still say a default, but just now be a satisfied default.

You can still write asking for it to be corrected without the account number, but obviously you would have to give them enough other information to allow them to identify the account (name, address at the time, account type, dates etc), plus a copy of the credit file entry so they can't deny that they are reporting anything.

However, if you think your BR forms or other paperwork would have listed the account number, it may be worth a quick email to your former OR to see if they have it on record.
