so did anyone actually buy one then?
I bought one about a month ago. It isn't an outstanding performer, but definitely good value. It is comparable with Toshiba models at nearly twice the price. The matchstick / nipple mouse controller takes some getting used to, but the £9.95 wireless USB mini mouse from Lidl works quite happily used on the area in front of the keyboard.

Although no longer made by IBM, they still come with an international warranty which was one of the key reasons for the purchase.

I just wish they would sell them online..... we are looking for a £400 laptop and cant find anything else comparable at the moment :(
    2 + 2 = 4
except for the general public when it can mean whatever they want it to.

Sorry not wishing to be rude but one is an IBM laptop and one is a dell. The reason thats this is such a cracking deal is because it is an IBM thinkpad, different standard of laptop alltogether.

Got to disagree with the above comment...I use a IBM thinkpad (R40e) and a Dell 2200 laptop.

I find the IBM slower although it has a 1.8gb Pentium mobile compared to the Dells 1.6gb pentium mobile. The dell is running 1.2gb ram compared to the IBM 256mb mind.

Both have a good build quality Both do what I need them to do. I don't think standards come into it at all.

The only real difference is DELL computers have a "windows" key, IBM don't. Both have similar components, both run Windows and other software. Both to it to a comparative standard.

Neither in my opinion out performs the other in standards...only in component specifications.

Toshiba have always made the best laptops....I have always found Dell laptops better than IBM's...using an HP for work at the mo and like all HP products, its unreliable

Totally agree regarding Toshiba laptops - we have some very old examples in work which have worked everyday for the last 15 years. I brought a P4 version 3 years ago for home use, use it everyday without any problems. For work we have to use Dell laptops and I'm already on my second one in 4 years.

If you're looking to buy a laptop it's worth spending the extra and getting a Toshiba.
