Looks a very reasonable spec lappy for the price especially as it's an IBM.
If anyone needs any more info I THINK this is the full spec for the model Premier's post mentions: http://www5.pc.ibm.com/uk/products.nsf/$wwwPartNumLookup/_UR0S5UK?OpenDocument

Looks excellent value for money for an entry level machine.
Wireless & DVD writer for less than £400.
And from a reputable make.
Dig up another 256Mb of Ram and you're 'smokin'.
(around £25 at Crucial.com)

I've just called my local (Poole) store as I've got laptop money burning a hole in my pocket at the moment (well, enought for a cheap one anyway!).....they don't have any and don't expect any until at least December. Apparently, Staples nationally are having a problem getting new stocks in. They had loads which 'flew out of the door' but now can't get anymore for quite a while :-(

Interesting..... why's that then?0 -
don't know if that's a good thing or bad though! if like me you find it essential for shortcuts, the IBM software lets you assign another key to act as the Windows key. Ilve got the r40 and wouldn't trade it for any other similar specced model. Good price BTW0

... am i the only one who doesn't like the aesthetics of this machine?
... am i the only one who thinks that the 'lid' housing the screen resembles a flattened lunchbox and is textured like artex ?
... and don't get me started on the 'nipple' where a trackpad should be   !
this has respectable specs, but i much prefer the acer instore at comet for £399.99. it has similar specs except it doesn't have wireless built-in ... but if you add a usb wireless adapter to the acer you would have virtually the same spec as the Thinkpad in a machine that looks considerably more modern (and more expensive)!
just my humble opinion ... i know i'm not worthy. sooooo sorry, but i cannot bring myself to like this machine ... sigh!0 -
I have tried a few laptops and must say for build quality and all round class - IBM Thinkpad wins all the way!!!!!!!!0
