Could it of been kicked up off the road? To maintain the same speed of the OP, shows it could of then left the scene, but decides to slow and then throw things at the OPs car.

Lesson for the OP in future, maintain a safe distance you should of been able to stop what ever happened and if road rage occurs stop and wait for a moment or two.

That's alright until they undertake/overtake you, slice inches in front then slam on the brakes - there's no easy answer to that situation unfortunately. Suppose you can sort of guess what's going to happen when they overtake/undertake after flashing and trailing you by an inch though, but they'll probably second guess that and stop and reverse or something. Particularly if they have plenty experience of being a w@nker on the roads.

Defensive driving teaches you to look for hints of what the other driver will do, he's flashed you, matched your speed, etc. Pull over and let him past, then the row doesn't escalate to stopping in front of you.

Flashing your hazard lights is stupid, as you then acknowledge someone is behind you, why do you care? Just pull over when safe to do so, start flashing hazards/brake lights and your going to annoy someone.

It's a shame there are such idiots allowed on the roads.

I don't know if the first 2 things here are relevant or not http://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts1988/ukpga_19880052_en_2#pt1-pb1-l1g2

Have you checked the reg number for insurance status here?

I tried the 2nd link for my 3 cars and it told me that none of them are insured. Pile of cr*p.

And who has the right hands  ? you mean anyone who jams their foot hard on the pedal and doesnt lift it, hoping the surface is bone dry, with no gravel or debris ?

    :T :T :T :T

No I don't, quite the opposite. I mean someone who can brake on the limit of adhesion and modulate the brke effect prior to a skid unlike ABS. It needs a little more nous than panic braking

Whats your problem with that, it's an accepted fact. Ask yourself, Why don't racing cars use ABS?

I've learnt the same too Lottie. Just can't believe people actually do this kind of thing!!!! It's crazy!

Anyway for the short term I have no idea how to afford to fix my car! Long term I hope my lawyer or the police get him.

I think it's probably a lot more common than you'd realise, but not too many incidents result in a collision as it is intended as a threat. Can't imagine they wanted a flat X5?

Hey guys thanks for the continued advice!

Once he was side by side throwing coins I was doing everythign I can to avoid conflict. When he slowed down with me, I was too scared to pull over because he looked absolutely crazy! That's why I kept going.

I knew as soon as he pulled over what he was doing but it was too late. Maybe next time when they speed up first I can see it earlier!

Anyway as for now... Think I'm ok driving the car with the bonnet safely on the 2 locked latches, though there is a hole?

Tape the seams over with gaffer tape to prevent any issues with exposed edges and to reduce the chance of a lift off;)

  • That's a bloody great idea cyclone :) Gaffer will definitely cover it and the independant assessor has already reviewed the damage, so I can now do what I like with it!

    Thanks so much! Great one.

This story just doesnt seem right to me

Add to it even more that the OP clearly was aggressive back -whether he wants to claim it was in the idea of safety - I simply dont believe them

I know we only ever hear one side of a story and I too thought initially that the OP maybe had a little more "input" than we were told. But then when you think about it, if you were legally driving a nice shiney X5 and got rear ended would you just drive off, no of course not unless you were either illegal or new you had done something very wrong:confused:;)
